There have been a few threads on Paris already, have a search for them. Some useful info.

I came to Paris for the weekend with my missus, she used to live here, so knows her ways pretty well.
Most people we've been with are either Brits or Americans(!!?Paris is ]PACKED[ with Americans!), and so far have seen quite a few fixieskiders around.
Paris have these rental bikes, so private owned bikes are not the majority (or at least you don't get to see as many as the rental ones). We were given addresses by her friends who also ride (non-fixed), of ateliers du velo, these are not shops but workshops.... only tomorrow I can post something about this, sunday means nothing opens here apparently. BTW, (@ the OP) there are no cheap things in Paris, let alone hotels, hostels, anything.
There's no way things like East London, I know 'cause i live in Crackney!!... here if you were to compare that would take a bit further from the city, so if you want to be realistic, get a cheap hotel, like mine, £80 per night with BF inc. Walking distance from *Gare du Nord *, main avenue so perfect to cycle around. We didn't bring our bikes since it's my lady's BDay... but def bringing it next time. -

this place is comes highly recommended
http://www.hostelz.com/hostel/65-MIJE-Hostel---FauconnierI stayed in a few others in the city with very poor expeirences. First one, got woken up at 4am and told the bed was double booked and I had to sleep in the luggage room. Second one was a communal room with a shower with no curtain.
Basically there are many overpriced shit hostels. But the top one is really good. Great, old building too.

Hmm hard to say, i still spend half of my time in London...
And still don't feel like i belong here, need more time. And more fluency in french i guess.Paris is great for riding though - wide roads, beautiful surroundings, quite small and compact. And right now is good time to visit - the air smells of autumn leaves and bonfires, with all the lanterns on at night and not being too cold yet, but freshly crisp.
People are nice, but some weird. Like anywhere.
Wicked food.

I would move to Paris in a second. Bikes, food, beautiful buildings, pain au chocolat. Nuff said.

I heard that a scientist managed to make a pain au chocolat in the lab somewhere outside of France. Crazy I know, but one day they may be available in our country too...

you should see the giant pains au chocolate they have in some places here. They are 4 x usual size. No exaggerating.

You can keep your Tesco croissants, they're beneath the contempt of our discerning French cousins.

Silly expensive beer, though. Up to £8/pint! No, thanks.

I concur about the beer, literally taking the piss prices. Even in sawdust joints with just shitty lager. Stick to the wine/absinthe.

Cool, I should be heading over in Xmas. The wide roads are what I love about Paris! You still got your Kawasaki or did ya sell it?

Three ducks is the best hostel in Paris. Plus they have free breakfast and international guardian in the morning.

I went to a slighty shitty looking bakery in Paris, brought a baguette sandwich and it was fucking delicious.
even french supermarket bake pains au chocolate a million time better than the British.

After I got back from france, thought, ooh I'd love a baguette. lets just say the french could have made about 10 baguettes with the same amount of dough they had used.
