Wanted: Off Topic - Sigma 10-20mm Nikon Fit

Posted on
  • I know there are plenty of photographers on here, so I thought I'd ask before spending weeks on eBay waiting for a bad listing or good deal.

I'm looking for a Sigma 10-20mm lens, Nikon fit. I don't mind scuffs and marks on the plastic or not boxed, I'm using it for live music anyway, but it's got to have mint glass.

    Offer away!

Any other fairly wide lenses considered, and if someone wants to give me a Nikon 10.5 I'd be ever so appreciative...

  • www.talkphotography.co.uk - great forum/classified section. Sold my Sigma 10-20mm and bought the Tokina 12-24mm f4. Much sharper, faster but also bigger and heavier. Loved the feel of the Sigma, the zoom was nicely damped. I would think about if you don't need a much faster lens than f4/5.6 as the light in gigs/clubs is very dark usually and you wan't to have a shutter speed around 1/125 to get some sharp pictures or use lots of flash.

  • Thanks for the link! Lots and lots and lots of flash for me, my pseudo-employer likes lot of clean, bright shots, rather than my preferred grimey dark slow shutter stuff. Oh well.

I'll look into that Tamron, it's had some good reviews from a precursory google! If Rockwell rates it, I rate it.

    Thanks!

  • Bad luck. I've just sold one.

  • Fucksake! I refuse to buy (personal used stuff only) of eBay so everything becomes trawling through camera shop websites and hoping for some-one saving me.

  • Tokina, not Tamron. And Ken Rockwell shouldn't be taken too serious.

  • I have the tokina 10-17mm fisheye stunning lens and can be had for not too much if you hunt around try:

    ffordes
    graysofwestminster
    apertureuk
    mifsuds
    lcegroup
    jacobs

    etc...

  • i know somebody possibly selling just the lens you are looking for i'll ask them now.

As if you're allowed to use flash at live gigs. All gig's I've been to, flash is banned, ruins the show apparently. Fast glass is the way forward; f3.5 or larger.

  • Thanks Smallmoustache! That's awesome.

Cheers for all the advice, I'm a long time amature so having pro-opinions on had is brilliant for me.
I've never been asked not to flash (oh err), but I'm going to smaller shows usually so I think they're just glad of the exposure, if you'll pardon the pun.

p.s. I'm Manchester based, so postage is important!

Much faster, f/1.8 more likely. Any kit lens can do f/3.5 which is just not fast enough on lowish ISO (200-800).
