Totally admirable work.
I don't mean to be pedantic, but being a sub...
the final sentence of the aims reads -
'Implementing these measures could make the UK one of the most cycle friendly cities in the world'
...make London one of the most cycle friendly cities in the world?

Yeah, the author realised this just after she clicked submit. But you can't revise it once it has been submitted.

To be fair... a few of us proof read it and totally missed it too. But she noticed after it was submitted.
Oops.
Do you reckon the politicians will use that to wriggle out of it?
"But this is clearly wrong! The whole thing must therefore be gibberish."

I think it's the spirit of the petition that matters.
(I've often done ''click send" and then regretted it two seconds later...)

Done. Thanks Velocio et al.
Deadline 1st December, so let's get every active forumger signed-up. And I'm working on some cycle-interested folks at work. Can only lead to better things.

signed. but is there more than one of these petitions going round?
-
• #14
There is.
But this one is the one that the action group are pushing hard. It has a very clear principle and goal in the title (zero deaths) and a suggested implementation in the detail (raise the training of drivers and quality of vehicles, limit those that don't meet the standard during busy times).
The point is, once you get X thousand signatures the petition goes in front of politicians. To ensure that something happens you need to communicate clear support (who will want to risk losing voters at this time?) and a clear set of actions for them to consider (otherwise they can vaguely wave their hands in the direction of some watered down bill somewhere).
So yes there are a couple circulating, which isn't a bad thing... but please throw your weight behind this one (though that's no comment on your actual weight).

Well, for those of you who agree with the petition title and aims:
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/LGV-Cycle-Safety/
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to introduce new measures, to complement existing measures, with the aim of reducing to zero the number of cyclist fatalities caused by LGVs (Large Goods Vehicles).
Easy enough right?
We've outlined one way of approaching this by having a safety permit that grants access to the city centre during peak hours and assesses the suitability of both the vehicle and driver for this situation.
But the principle is really what we're trying to push... that there should be zero deaths to cyclists by trucks.
Please sign it, tweet it, ask others to sign it, and so on.
Thanks you foot soldiers of LFGSS.
