Fork questions!

Posted on
  • hi,
well I have a couple doubts and hopefully some genious around here can help me:

    a) I've been told that you can use 1 1/8 bmx forks on a 1" bmx frame. it envolves changing to smaller loose bearings. can this be done on a road frame?

    b) I need to get a bit more clearance on my beater carbon fork. the top (below steer tube) is straight and I need to round it a little, like, 5mm maybe. will I be 'forkless' instantly?

    thanks!

  • you can use 1" forks in a 1 1/8th" frame if you have a headset like the chris king devolution which will allow this

  • thanks man, but it's the other way around! bigger fork on smaller frame...

  • a) no

    b) dont know

  • .... my beater carbon fork.....

This sounds completely horrifying to me.

As far as A and B, no to A and I don't really understand what your asking in B. If your crown is a different size from your race, then yes, you can file it down (Or get a shop to ream it down with a proper cutter). Honestly this is the only thing I can imagine you mean.

  • apart from english not being my natural language, I am hugely dislexic! ahaha

its not exactly carbon, it's more carbon wraped I guess..and the problem is: tyre clearance. not width but height!

Ive already solved it with some right arm power and a file. I was affraid I might ruin the whole thing but It looks like it was like this all along! not bad..thank you dremel and montana black paint

  • Guess that's safe enough as the fork crown would most likely be alloy rather than carbon, the give away being an alloy steerer usually and the silver filings as you filed/dremelled.

And it's not as though a forks integrity is something to worry about is it!

  • ^ahahaha

well, It feels safe! I only filed about 5mm on the center, and rounded it a bit where the legs start, to make it even. it doesnt flex more than it did before
