Does a dent in the seat tube affect the integrity?

Posted on
  • There is a small dent the size of a 5p coin about 2-mm deep halfway up the seat tube (seat tube is c-c 49-cm) tubing is 653. I brought the frame with this on it so I have no idea how it got there. Can anyone comment on whether they think it is safe to ride?

    Thanks in advance,

  • That should be fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • thanks Andy, so apart from the aesthetics it'll be ok.

  • Hub + Parcelforce = Fuckered frame?

  • Bad luck.

  • :)

  • ouchies. surely you can claim?

  • Wasn't bought through eBay/etc, paid with PayPal gift, and I highly doubt the seller got the delivery insurance...I've asked for a refund anyway though - It wasn't brilliantly packaged...

  • Can anyone let me know whether this is anything to worry about. Its close to BB, where the front derailleur fits.

    Thanks

  • Is the dent the thing that looks like bull horns? If so, I think that's totally fine. I have a much larger dent in one of my seatstays.

  • Yeh, its the thin dent, think its where the front d has somehow dented it. Its on a frame that I want to buy....wouldnt cause any problems then? cheers

  • It might piss you off, but I wouldn't have thought there are any structural problems from a dent that small. If it gets the better of you, it should be possible to fill it and repaint the frame or touch up with matching nail polish.

  • Assuming it's steel....
