  • I'm taking my frame to get powder coated soon and would like the forks to match.

The issue is that they are carbon fibre and therefore powdercoat is not an option for them.

Who could I take them too that will be a) good b) fast and c) affordable?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Vaz?

  • Heard a lot of horror stories.

That said he clearcoated my old frame very well.

However- he always cures stuff in his walk in oven thing, would that not knacker the CF?

  • Most of the 'horror' stories seem to come from people wanting fancy things done like lug lining. Painting a set of carbon forks white isn't going to be that difficult one would imagine.

I've used Atlantic Boulevard in the past and they were superb but you'd have to get the forks to them, although they did offer a courier service who collected and returned the frame for me for £30.

  • armourtex do wet paint as well as powder coat apparently.

  • If you are correct Spag then I will be a happy man- on what authority do you have this information?

  • the armourtex leaflet.

  • Andy- how much are Atlantic Boulevard for a complete spray?

  • Dammit! Any news of the white run? I'm getting bored of this BMX frame a colleague has dumped under my desk...

  • so it's not on the leaflet.... i'm sure i heard it somewhere.
give em a call and ask.

  • Aye- looking like Thursday, will be in the Red Wagon post dental trauma so could pick up your BMX.

Is your office in the C-charge zone?

That image is blocked (like 99% of the images on here) by my works proxy- is it the Armortex leaflet?

I paid about £200 including the courier. It was a Pinarello with intricate detailing so I paid more than normal, I think a frame and forks would be £150.

  • When i was last in Armourtex they said they can do Carbon, but that it was a time consuming process - not sure if they p/coat or w/spray

  • Andyp that might well work out cheaper than the current quote I have.

Would they provide custom decals and so forth?

  • I don't know about custom decals, they sourced Pinarello ones for me which were included in the price.

  • Roughly how long did it take?

Nah, I'm in the heart of brixton, but my ongoing posting about how dull jury service is, means I don't know whether I'll be in Brixton or Southwark on the day. I'll let you know tomorrow... I guess I could bring it up to you in Waterloo on my route there?

Not long, a couple of weeks maybe?

Not at work tomorrow- dental torture session ID #3256 in the morning.

Hence my ability to drive over to Armortex in the afternoon.

Sure we can sort something out though.

  • lovely. I should be done by 5 pm. I'll call you.

  • Just spoke to Armortex- frame will be £54 and they will wet paint the forks also- for £60.

So total cost would be £104 (obviously).

That's getting into the realms of serious money and is making me rethink using Armortex.

  • And Atlantic Boulevard are shut until the 6th of October so I cannot ask them how much it would be for the Penguin paint job.

    Meh.

  • Thought about it- I think £60 for the forks has put the knockers on it.

I may as well go for a "proper" spray job at that money.

Might still get stem/bars/seatpost powdercoated though.

    Hmm.

  • Neil, I get Paul Mepham at Harry Perry Cycles to sort any spraying I need doing. Always seems a decent job. He doesnt do the spraying himself, but I reckon he could sort it out quickish, give him a bell tomorrow (tell him I said to get in touch) and ask what he can do for you. He is really friendly and will be able to help you out. If you need the number or anything, drop me a pm - Cheers
