  • Interesting report here from the guy that has broken the unofficial Three Peak Cyclocross record for SS.

Of the 499 finishers I think I counted 4 SS riders.

Congratulations also to Nick Craig who has won again after a 17 year gap and halted Rob Jebb's impressive winning streak of 7.

  • Having ridden it on Sunday I can only say that is 3.40 was an awesome effort, but ss takes it up a level, total respect.

I also reckon 4 ss riders sounds about right although does that include the gnarly old chap at the back of the field who may have been on a Sturmey Archer 3 speed but I think was actually ss?

  • I was watching the gnarly old chap haul up Pen y ghent and I reckon SS. I gave him a bit of encouragement and followed up with "ooh, SS as well, fantastic" and he gave me a big smile. I thought I saw a different guy on an SS. Not quite as old and gnarly though.

    What time did you get?

  • I thought that I might as well not rush and enjoy the experience so took 5 and a half hours!

More seriously, for someone sacred of heights and often with such downhill fear that walking down benign road descents is not unknown I was pleased to finish well within time. Likely to give it another crack next year I think.

  • Well done, you completed just after my girlfriend. I would have been the guy mooching around Pen y ghent in the red top just below the ruined house.

  • I may well have seen her as I talked to quite a few people on the way round, particularly on Pen-y-Ghent. I was on an orange IF and in Retrobike kit (photo is top of Whernside)

  • a lot of cyclo cross bikes ?
they can't seem to cycle across scattered rocky areas? wouldn't an MTB have been slightly more useful ?

    PLEASE IGNORE

Actually Nick Craig, last years winner and very successful mountain biker, disagrees with you. He rides across the scattered rocky areas just fine on a cross bike (I think he holds the record for descending Pen-Y-Ghent) and doesn't think he would be as fast on an MTB.

  • Wonderful day out spectating/supporting yesterday. New route off Ingleborough was the cause of much carnage and my girlfriend knocked 10 minutes of last year. Fairly good as everyone seemed to think it was a slow day.

  • Nick craig won this years IoM End to End Challenge (MTB). 75km in 2hrs 57. It is doable on a cross bike, I'd like to see how fast he could do it on one.

  • There's only so much that you can do with camera angles, the rest is Simon Fell.

I remember that name from Rad / Sidewalk magazines! Awesome.

  • friend did it and went over the bars 5 times on decents. eek.

  • Ouch, that's a bit harsh. I'm guessing that at least two of those were on Ingleborough, possibly more.

  • he had judders in front brake over 20mph. too much float in his canti's i think. lucky we fixed his headset which was a little loose.

  • Excellent video. Makes me want to enter.

  • Excellent video. No sign of my girlfriend but I make a cameo at 7.01 as spectator in red jersey at the bottom of Pen-Y-Ghent

  • Time to start thinking about this for 2011.

The 49th 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross will be on September 25th 2011. The entry form will be on the website on July 1st. http://www.3peakscyclocross.org.uk/race_info.htm

Changes for this year: No straight handlebars, online entry, £40

Looks like 29ers were trying to sneak in, tsch tsch.
