Well, firstly, thank fuck I don't have to drive in London every day. I had to pick up a rental to drive to Bath tomorrow. Driving home tonight from Victoria to Stokey was interesting.
First off, checking for cyclist is hard work and and a constant requirement (stating the obvious) but it's educational from the drivers seat. Those little flashing lights we all use are a great help cause they really catch the eye. Oh, and High vis wear seems to do f-all for visibilty. The sulphur lighting just saps the fluro colour away.
Second, all those dicks that ride with no lights - YOU ARE FREAKING INVISIBLE. especially against the dazzle of other headlights. Use lights FFS. Btw, only a minority of cyclist seem to ignore this basic safety measure, mostly it seemed people in tight jeans and colour co-ordinated bikes...
The third surprising fact was that traffic wasn't that bad. I guess it was 7 but mostly it flowed. I would have still been faster on 2 wheels though!
So basically, It probably should be mandatory for cyclist to drive at least once to get an understanding of blind spots and to get at least a little respect for those drivers that do actually look out for riders.
Anyway, enjoy your evenings.
