I like wearing trainers

I like the idea, I've always thought when I start polo I'll do it clipless.
-
• #5
Clipless polo ftw.

• #6
from what i have seen, most people don't seem to have a problem bailing quickly (which i guess is what i'm most worried about) but does that come with experience, or is it just a natural movement?
-
• #7
It becomes instinctive to twist your foot out when you bail pretty quickly.
-
• #8
I've bailed a few times playing polo in clips n straps, if your foot twists, you get stuck in the pedal. By contrast, like Max says, it's pretty easy to twist out of clipless, and once you're used to the action it becomes pretty much second nature.

...and as the OP said, I imagine it must be great for polo being able to just stamp in rather than flip the pedal over.

some of my most spectacular polo falls where down to clip less, and my ability to generally make an ass of my self.

josh, time atacs are fucking brilliant. get some. get trainer style shoes, stupid cycling shoes with carbon soles are crap, cos when you fall off you just slip on the floor and fall on your face. ChainReaction sell 661 shoes for pretty cheap, cheaper than stupid sidis.

if you do it, dont wear roadieish shoes, more like gabes' cos when you foot down you'll slide!! but i still think clips and straps are better
and to all of you who this applies No polo no talk
edit: see ^^

ps. i'll think you're a loser if you go clipless

I fail to understand why anyone uses clips and straps.
I started riding when there was only clips and straps, and all of us, and I mean all, switched as soon as we could. No screws to come undown. No straps to break. No clips to bend. Effortless step in connection.
As far as unclipping, the first time you go to unclip, you will fall off. Everyone does it. I did it right outside Condor, on a brand new bike (cost £1200 in 1990). But once you have done it a few times, it will become automatic.
You may have noticed that I just switch pedal systems from Speedplay Frogs (which are excellent, the best pedal/cleat system I have ever used, smooth and really low profile, but really expensive ) to Time Alium (not as smooth, slightly bigger profile, but much cheaper). The first few times I went to uncleat to bail, I couldn't get my foot out and ate it large-style. But after a little fiddle, and little bit more experience, my feet come out easy.
If you want to wear trainers, just retro-fit the cleats to what ever shoes you want to wear - it's not a difficult job.
Clips and straps are for losers, frankly.

HA!
I don't like the idea of possibly pulling out of clipless in the middle of an attack in the direction of a wall.
Straps get easier to get into without looking. But I would say that.

you don't have as much flexibility leaning for the ball in clipless.

what?

there are words in front of your face. repeat them until they make sense to you.
-
• #21
seriously, what do you mean? that makes no sense at all.
-
• #22
you can't twist your ankle when you are reaching without clipping out, my clips and straps are pretty loose. This is riding fixed of course, different KOF with freewheel ... mallet packer.
-
• #23
ah, yeah, see what you mean, don't think it's a huge issue, but then, i'm freewheel.
-
• #24
if you take your sport seriously you get clipless pedals. But if you're in it for the posing aspect I think clips and straps are perfectly fine.

So I'm a poser and a loser according to Bill and Yorgo. Nice!
I've been thinking about it, and have come up with some thoughts.
I like the idea of not needing to look at my feet when i clip in, and being able to hop better, and having less pedal strike. But admittedly there are good arguments against aswell.
Some opinions would be much appreciated, if you would care to share.
