Thanks,
That should fit in my old italian frame, shouldnt it?
I´ve been looking at some crank options and Suginos RD2 and XD are within my budget, but getting a BB for it hasnt been easy. The axle on this one is a bit on the long side isnt it?
I´ve got a formula rear hub, which should give a 42-43mm chainline, what length of BB axle would i need to make that work with Suginos?

Shimano of course.
What length?
For which crank set? -

RD2 and XD cranks use a 103mm spindle to get the 42mm chainline, which is unpossibly small. Smallest shimano bb is 107. I do believe the cups are removable, so you could try and find some italian threaded cups for the standard XD/rd2 BB, but that might be even harder.
the cheapest option might be to take your bike to a framebuilder and get him to recut the threads as english. Should be possible as the inner diameter of italian threading is slightly smaller than english (I think)?
Alternatively, phil wood might be necessary to get the combination of 103mm axle length, iso taper, and italian threading.

I´d rather not mess with the frame too much.. My crazy, local, but nice bike repairman mentioned the possibility of machining in english threads inside some italian cups.. Is that a solution?
And Phil Wood kind of defeats the reason for not just buying a campy or miche crank, beeing £100 a pop.

Shimano BB-7410 (Dura Ace) is 102/103mm.
Available in BSA and Italian.
It has a JIS square taper axle.If you can get a BB-set with BSA cups, you can take the Italian threaded cups of another Shimano BB-set. Just pressed on, easy to replace.
I could even help you with the Italian threaded cups. I just have 107mm cartridges. No 103mm.In case your frame has BSA thread, you can cut Italian threads in it (Italian has a larger diameter). The other way 'round doesn't work.

All of this looks to be getting expensive. Maybe I should go for a Miche Primato Pista crank. A bit over what I intended to use, but I cant see a lot of cheaper options. Wiggle has it for £105, but thats with a 48t chainring thats ugly.
Anyone cheaper without the ugly chainring?
And thats a 144 bcd.. I guess thats expensive as well isnt it?

I stand corrected! Are those dura-ace BBs still made? I did a search for a customer for JIS BBs, and I couldn't find any 103 from shimano at all.

A coupla the HH jumblers have NOS Campag Italian BBs for £8... Not sure if it's an ISO or a JIS... Will check tomorrow, think they're 109 but can check... Or just come down and see for yourself? :)

Campagnolo should be ISO.

campag = ISO indeed. it is slightly thinner than JIS, and it tapers slightly.... less than JIS. I think.

Oh well, bargainous for someone... I was really excited when I found them, until I realised they were Iti threads.... Boo! :/

hhhmmm would love to get those campag bb's......i have 3 Bernardi frames sat in my workshop waiting for bb.Italian threads are slightly difficult to find for me.

No, angle is the same.
Dimension of the square at the end is also the same.
But the spot where and how it is measured is different.
One is measured before the radius, the other one behind the radius.
That explains why one is a bit thinner than the other, although the taper is the same.
One crank will slide a bit too far over the axle (probably cannot be tightened well)
Other crank doesn't go far enough on the square. Can fit, can tighten, chain line a bit too far out, need to check torque frequently.Sheldon explained it well.
Does anyone know who makes a Bottom bracket for an italian threaded frame thats JIS tapered?
I´ve heard Stronglight makes one, but I cant find it for sale anywhere.. Are there any other alternatives? Or does anyone know of someone who might sell these?
