Has anyone paper mache'd their frame?

Posted on
  • Just thinking of what to do with one of my frames
was thinking grey and some pink pages (the financial times) on it

    Has anyone ever done this?
Is it as easy as putting it on, then clear laquering over it?

    Your views please

    Ta

  • This is called deccopage not paper mache, seen it done with dollar bills yall!

  • i once made someone a paper mache chicken as a present.

  • sounds totally possible. Just makes sure you build up a nice coat of lacquer over it to keep the print in place.
You may want to do some testing first though to see how the print reacts to different clearcoats. You might en up with runny/blurred ink

  • I have seen a bike somewhere in London that was covered with stamps, then presumably clear coated, or maybe varnished.

  • I thought that brown wrapping paper would be quite cool.

  • ^^^ then cover it in stamps and it'd be ready to post on to the person you sell it to a few years in the future

yeah the guy who won brick to brix has a fixed bike covered with her majesties finest
mostly penny stamps but in a tight squeeze i reckon he could send his bike anywhere in the world via the postal services

dollar dollar dollar bills y'all dollar bills might be fun too
wouldn't be much in it costwise between an argos re spray and a coating of dollar bills

  • the stamp bike guy is tom, awesome guy and a great bike. But they did start to come off, maybe try and contact him his name is tom pande and ask him how he did his.

  • Some bikes are being bought and sold so quickly on this forum, that would be cool to have them covered with Special Delivery slips ready to fill in :-)

  • you would need to prep the frame first - white spirits and sealer, then use a non water based glue to stick the paper on, then when dry clear coat it about 5 times.

I have hundreds of paper stills from Star Wars New hope that i am planning to cover a bike with, they are awesome.. Dollar bills would rock

  • someone used this: http://www.plaidonline.com/apMP.asp to fix the paper cutouts and the used a UV protective clear coat

  • OOL would of course have to have a Langster covered in 100 dollar bills (yo), and Mink handlebar tape.

  • You've got an exquisite taste, Sir. There's a guy on Gumtree who sells Dalmatian puppies just right for your saddle.

  • he would, but he would have to stick the bills on backwards as he only cycles backwards now adays such is the skill
