  • hey, liking the look of this bike, seems it can cover most bases, fixed or geared, fat tyres fenders etc so am tempted to get one as my main london ride. does anyone own one and can give me an opinion? also frame sizing, do they size them large? largest frame is 62cm and i am an outrageous 6'5. thanks in advance

  • Momentum rides one, he may comment at some point but unlike me he is probably out riding. He's considerably taller than me and I'm a nats whisker shorter than 6'2".

  • they are awesome. Fact.

  • I had one for years. Nhatt is correct, they are awesome. The only reason I sold mine is I needed the cash to pay for a Singular Peregrine. I wish I still had my Cross Check now.

  • I really want to get one for my wife for exact same reasons you're considering one. they're brilliant bikes.

  • flexible little bugger, you can make it into a town bike, a tourer, a fixed wheel bike, etc.

  • really super-flexible bike, I've seen them built up as hybrid commuters, touring bikes, cyclo-cross...

  • heh weird

  • hah! blimey that was uncanny!

That is outrageous, if i was that tall i wouldn't bother riding a bike, maybe take a look at the recent posts in current projects for some tall riders talking about stuff.

  • cheers for the feedback guys, think mind made up. shame theres a 6 week import time and bonus shame that i will be in california during this time. so near yet so far

  • i think flick meant you shouldnt ride a bike when your that tall because you should be striding about london squinting into 10th floor office windows on the look out for damzells to pick up and climb the gurkin while under attack by spitfires or something.......

  • That is outrageous, if i was that tall i wouldn't bother riding a bike

    eh?

flickwg is a very tall fella, and he rides a bike that looks like a giraffe.

can you not buy one in california? prolly cheaper.

  • using bikescheme to bankroll the new ride, i think the builds are same price in $ as in £ so i would be saving so ££ to buy it there otherwise

  • Momentum is gargantuan and he rides a cross check

    is that cyclescheme or ride2work?

  • mine's my ride anywhere in any weather bike. I'm 6'2 and ride a 56 c-t, albeit with the saddle quite low as i'm using an offroad drop.

  • Two name checks in one thread, both including my height - I feel so special!

I'm 6'4" and have the 62cm cross check. It fits fine despite having a frame geo which probably isn't ideal for me, as I have really long legs (37.5") and a shorter torso, whereas the frame is probably 60cm c-c on the ST and more than that on the TT, so better for people who are more torso than legs. You can come and try mine down in Brixton if you want to.

They are awesome bikes - I've had mine set up as a fixed commuter with mudguards and racks, 1x9 commuter with just guards, singlespeed and 1x9 monstercross with 1.8" knobblies for singletrack and as a singlespeed cross bike for racing at Herne Hill. On the road they are comfy and solid, although they are slightly heavy and don't feel very zippy. That's made up for by the fact that I'm much happier riding it down steps or off curbs than with my Bob Jackson. Off road they feel pretty quick and handle really nicely. I have mine set up with a disc fork to add a bit more braking power and think that's a good upgrade for offroad and/or bad weather riding.

flexible little bugger, you can make it into a town bike, a tourer, a fixed wheel bike, etc.

That's the most ridiculously set up cross check - going brakeless on a bike with canti posts makes so little sense! It looks worse than if it had brakes and makes it utterly impractical.

  • thanks momentum (name check 3), i might pm you to take a look at your set up before i order

  • dunzo, surly crosscheck it be. nhatt, cheers for the instore advice

  • You wouldn't be Tim, would you?

that's the whole point of that example, it can be build up in anyway you like.

netherless, I'm drawn to the cross check now.
