Wanted: Front caliper for beater

Posted on
  • From my novice stance I've just realised you can't use back brakes
on the front. It's all a learning curve.
Does anyone have a cheap as chips front caliper for my polo beater?

    Splendid.

  • Dia Compe BRS-200, £10

Since you're a novice, I might as well ask: is the back brake you have an allen key fitting or nut fitting? And is the fork ditto?

  • why can't you use the back on the front?

  • Your bike would stop forwards, otherwise known as acceleration. This is not what OP wants.

  • ha ha... thats good.

@ PP - the bolts are diff lengths - front long, back short - so you could use a front on the back with lots of spacers but not the other way

  • Some calipers can have the err "middle bit" swapped out for the front/rear. It's not really worth it for a £10 caliper.

Hey mate, thanks for this, I'm thinking that might be a little too fancy for my bike that's going to get stolen when I leave it outside my course in Brixton, however.

It's an allen key tecktro. My forks have canti's on them at the moment so the hole is nut fitting which will obviously have to be laboriously filled if I get an allen key fitting.
    Fun.

  • ^mosquito sell that allen nuts for 50p each

  • Was just thinking it makes sense to go to a bike shop.
    The one on Essex Road?
    Cheers Rik.

  • yep, the one in Essex rd, aldo worth a try Bicycle Magic in Algate, or Brixton Cycles, all good shops, that will seld them for not much money

  • Sweet. Will pop out at lunch. I'm at Old Street and pretty much surrounded by Evans and Cycle Surgery.

    Thanks for the advice mate.
