Throw away the bike and take public transport.

I broke my first spoke yesterday - no biggie, but it threw the wheel out of true by around 1cm so I looked a bit like coco the clown on the way back from my ride. This was on a 32-spoke wheel, so it got me thinking that if the same happened on my 24 radial spoke front wheel, would this likely be enough to lock the wheel against the brake pads and flip the bike? If this happened going 40mph down a hill that can't be good - it got me seriously thinking about wearing a helmet..?

I don't think it would shift as much as you think.
Go brakeless. -

No.

I'd worry less about the format and more about the content of that one tbh. How to make your kids neurotic in one easy lesson.

You didn't give it much of a chance, to be fair.

I've had a whole pile of spokes break on my road bike, 32 front regular, 36 rear radial,
sometimes it doesn't even throw the wheel out of true at all. sometimes just a little bit, 1cm sounds like a lot to me! must have just been bad luck.
I had a rear spoke go 50 miles into a 300 mile cycle, and the wheel stayed true until i got back on the final day...
i wouldnt worry too much about it!

I doubt you'll go 40mph on a fixed gear too.

On fixed you're maybe right - I'm single-speed, coasting down big hills approaches this...
