Warwick fixed gear?

Posted on
  • Recently received confirmation that I will be starting at the university of Warwick in just less than 4 weeks. Wondering if there's anyone there (or around that area) which is into all this - or will I be all on my own? :(

    Peace

  • Start a cycling gang if there int.

  • The Warwickie Fixie?

  • I think that you'll be looking at Leamington or Coventry Fixed Gear if you are at the University of Warwick. There is no real reason to live in Warwick if you are at the University as it's neither the closest town (Kenilworth) nor the most lively (Leamington/Coventry).

If you get stuck, there are some good bike shops in Leamington (although more for MTB/BMX stuff) who'll probably be able to give you a heads up about anyone around there who rides.

  • I work in Coventry. I haven't seen or rather noticed anyone riding fixed.

  • not many riders around that way. I'm probably one of the closest live in Knowle / Lapworth area. That's about 8 miles from Warwick.

I think there are a couple of people that may ride out of Leamington but not sure, there are a few in Birmingham. Having said that there is some good riding to be had in the area.

  • I'm from Leam, don't go there much anymore, I'm sure if you gave John Atkins a ring and asked if anyone was riding fixed round abouts you could find out.

@ Joseph, you know 'Warwick' university is in Coventry right? You wouldn't believe how many people have fallen for that trick ;)

  • Thanks everyone - Yeah, I haven't fallen for any tricks, just got longed off by Imperial, so looks like I'm spending 4 years in the countryside, which I'm sure is going to be a nice breath of fresh air from London. I'll see what's going on in the university, I'm sure there's some sort of society concerning cycling or whatnot... or at least one other person there that has the slightest clue! I guess I'll find out soon enough...

  • Unless you live on campus, you're not going to be spending four years in the countryside.

If you go into John Atkins, ask to the see the Tomac replica MTB, it's awesome (if you like MTBs from 1992).

Oh, and if you're looking for a house to rent next year, PM me (my parents have one on Eastcotes).
