Will see what the boyfriend thinks, he got his first fixie built up last night so he might be up for this! I know I would be...
*edit
Don't expect us to go super fast, we'll have to come in from Tallaght/Firhouse area and ride back there afterwards too!

I'm coming in from Blanch so I got some added extra miles too.
If it turns out too long for us we can always come back down via Swords, Ballymun, or Finglas from the Ward turnoff, the old N2 road is quiet these days since the big new road opened.
That route is just a suggestion.
But thats cool - see you both on Sunday hopefully. -

I'm spoiled having the hilly suburbs of south Dublin and Wickeh. Provisionally I'm down for this.
40 miles on the flat sounds like a good first ride for anyone who hasn't gone on a ride before.
Are these roads safe or are the drivers cunts?

Only road I dont know is the one going from Swords over towards the Ward.
The more of us the better, safety in numbers and all that jazz.
The coast road is usually fine - there is a cycle path but I prefer to take the road as the cycle path is full of sunday cyclists, strollers, rollerbladers, joggers, etc., who just wreck my head.
The road down from the Ward towards Mulhuddart is quiet, as is the Porterstown Road on the way to the Phoenix Park, there's a few nice quaint old buildings along the road, an old abandoned school or church, a nice smaller church further along the road.Again, with that route there's always a few options for coming back from different spots, it doesnt have to be adhered to completely.

Meet up at 1pm at the 'Last Supper' fresco in Mick Wallace's Italian Quarter
I am looking forward to this now. Been keeping an eye on the long range forecasts, might be some showers tonight and early tomorrow morning, but Sunday afternoon looks good & dry. Sound...

Good and moist then lads? I still would have liked to go, I'll do my best for next time! I'm thinking that the Wales Alleycat will probably be my first decent session in the saddle if this build takes too long

I'm too tired to type up more stuff so here's a copy and paste from boards.ie:
Today's trip:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3144273
62km.
Slightly different then planned but it was nice to go along the Estuary Road from Malahide towards Swords. We came back straight via the old N2 road and then via Finglas with the rain and time constraints, rather than cutting down through the Ward and then through Blanch & Phoenix Park. The road between Swords and Ashbourne is nice, quiet country road with very little traffic, decent surface too. The old N2 north road is a bit 'ardcore though, they've obviously not resurfaced it now in years because of the new road, and its quite straight and exposed so the wind (and rain) was in our faces on that stretch.
Add the 20km on top for me for the back and forth to Blanch, so 80+ km for me today, fixed. I didnt even break sweat. I could do it in my sleep. In fact, I was asleep. Also, I was so not sweating, I actually absorbed salty water from the atmosphere into my body, so there, blorg.
Ah no, obviously I'm a bit wrecked after it, and once or twice on the mild uphill inclines, I felt a bit of a twinge in my shoulder, its still not right from the accident. The twinges throw me off my stride a bit, I can instantly feel my cadence rate (or whatever its called) dropping, its a bit frustrating. But hopefully in a month or so everything will be ok when the bone tissue is fully grown back into the screw holes. I'm a bit stiff now but feel pretty good. 62km in two and a half hours (we left at 1.25pm, I was back at Georges Street at 3.55pm) given that we had to stop at Sutton Cross as well for a puncture repair is decent going, I think.
I got some video from my phone of us coming into Malahide, I'll youtube it later for el tonto's benefit. pothole_surfer has some pics but I dont think he's on this board.
BTW dublinfgss.com is now live (Thanks Tiny!) so any fixie riders out there come on over and register.

Sorry we didn't end up coming - Gav cracked his bottom bracket the day before when we went out to Dun Laoghaire so we thought he better not ride so far on it. We were gonna come in for drinks with Crazydingo to meet you guys but he said you all got soaked and went home! awwwwwh

I had the same thing happen but I got kneed/ kicked up the arse in a rook whilst playing rugby, jesus the pain is incomparable!
OK I'm so on for this, a medium to fast paced spin out into the countryside, probably three hours duration or so, maybe a short break at a halfway point, we'd back in the city centre by dinnertime for a bit of food and pints if people were into it, personally I would like to head to Cafe Bar Deli on Georges Street or the Italian pizza place on Parliament Street because after cycling loads I like a pizza and beer to refuel.
Meet up at 1pm at the 'Last Supper' fresco in Mick Wallace's Italian Quarter ("Quartier Bloom"), just on the northside of the Milennium Bridge, off Lower Ormond Quay, between Jervis Street and Liffey Street. I think the restaurant on the corner is called Bar Italia.
This is a potential route I made up - it takes in part of the east coastline, then cuts through North County Dublin at Swords, over towards the Ward, then down through parts of Blanchardstown, and into the Phoenix Park for town.
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3134761
So 1pm on Sunday at the Italian Quarter, we'll head off around twenty past.
Positive / potential responses only please - yes dingo, we know your arm is fucked! :-)
