Ritchey titanium clipless pedals

  • Anyone know if they're any good? They look nice and shiny. I would attach a picture but I am from a generation of computer luddites. You can check them out at totalcycling.com under mountain bike pedals.

  • Not had any experiance with them myself. Remember reading about them though.

  • They are stunningly pretty but don't perform that well, or so I've read.

  • Thanks Archi and all. I've been riding with eggbeaters for a good while now and although they look nice, I've having more and more scary skidding unclipping moments as the springs lose their stiffness (well documented on this site). Have tried a mates atacs and they were great but so damn ugly. Maybe if they did them in silver though....

  • I use Crank Bros Quattro on my fixed (eggbeaters on commuter) and find them great for riding fixed (not a skidder though). I think they've been discontinued though :(

  • great but so damn ugly

    innit.

  • May I recommend...

  • ive been having more and more sketchy moments on my SPuDs with worn cleats so changed to time atacs at the weekend, they come in fancy varieties as well, probably not as shiny as this though.

I'm wearing through my tyre at an alarming rate as they feel so secure after a week of riding and about 100 miles im getting more aand more confident.

some people may blame the issues on worn cleats but they were never this secure!

  • They're functionally identical to the steel Ritchey Pro Micro which I use, aside from being double sided. Based on that, I'd say they're for weight weenies who don't mind that they're not as nice to use as Shimano 959/XTR SPDs. I'm pretty sure there's a bushing in there somewhere, rather than ball bearings throughout and I'm not convinced that the inboard seal is up to splashing around in the mud. So, it depends what you want them for. If I was racing off road, I'd use XTRs. If I wanted something for daily use, I'd probably get the Ritchey Comp V4, 1/4 of the price and with better bearings, or at least they'd be in the running alongside PD-M520/540. If I was building a show bike, I probably would get the Ti Ritcheys and accept the slightly diminished performance for the light weight and beauty.
