  • and it may be a stupid question, but if a bolt takes a 5mm alan key, does that mean the bolt is 5mms?

Braces self to be shot down in flames...

  • I'm having a Deja Vu.

If a bolt takes a 5mm allen key it means that the hexagonal "hole" where you put the key in is 5mm across, measured from one flat bit to the opposite flat bit - not from pointy to pointy.

  • but yeah no relation to actual bolt size

  • I thank you.

  • You were lucky that noah and I happen to spot this thread. It could've turned ugly...and probably will.

  • Because I haven't read all the threads on the forum to make sure it hasn't been broached before and because I don't spend time doing mechanics so don't know about these sort of things?

    Sighs.
