What happened to me was I bent the crank bolt. It's happened to me a couple of times, always on the non drive side (I have a theory this is because the threading on that side makes it easier for the crank bolt to work loose)...
Always the same symptoms: cranks start creeking + loosening of bolt... you need to really tighten it.

the creaking sound will go away if you put grease on the spindle first, it will creak again when the rain has washed the grease away, especially the sugino messenger cranks are creaking is my experience

cheers for the advice guys, I will get myself sorted with grease and the correct tools as soon as I can and get it degreasing.
Interestingly, i do think it started just after the torrential downpour the other week. -

solution: wedge it down really hard and tighten as quick as you can. then tighten lots. the ride new comfy sadle. problem solved. approaching these things sober is always the better plan.

I break too many parts to stay sober while fixing them all, I'd never get to drink :-)

Different set-up, so probs a different problem. But the thread title fits well.
My non-drive side crank is creaking like hell. Each time it hits 7 o'clock. It's really loud. I'm gonna remove it, grease to feck, and reinstall it tonight. But wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what it could be. I mean it could the pedal, sounds like the BB/crank area, but then it always does.
Its an external bearing type Deore triple.
Morning,
had this persisting for a few days, and have read the search items. My non-drive side crank creaks when I am accelerating, slowing down, or posing at lights. so essentially whenever I put a large force into it.
I established that it had been loosing itself off, so i tightened it and still the creaking persists, albeit at a lower level.
Having used the search and not found anything that great a few questions:
Cheers.
