Pace Forks? Frame Repaint

Posted on
  • Hi all,

this isnt a strictly ss question but I'm hoping you can offer some comments/opinions.

I am dusting off my Klein MTB and was considering getting the frame painted by argoscycles. Does anyone have any experience of their work?

I notice a few of you are running or have been running the Pace RC31 forks on MTB frames. Am I right in thinking these offer a bit of flex to soak up front end chatter but without the weight/maintenance of suspension forks?

    Good? Bad? Alternatives?

Thanks very much for any input.

  • I just had a frame painted by Argos, decent job but not (in my view) 100% perfect. Also, they are a bit of a nightmare on the customer service front - run like a 1950s paint shop.

  • No direct expereince myself but ask the same question on www.singletrackworld.com and you'll get some fairly swift answers.

  • Pace RC31s are very good (light and plenty comfortable enough - but I do hate the feel of suspension). If you are using for XC types of rides they are ideal unless you have been spoilt by suspension in which case you will walk off crying that your wrists/forearms ache :-)

The bit of flex you refer to is quite surprising the first time you see it when braking heavily on a hard surface (they look like they are going to snap!)

They helped get my SS MTB under 20lb which was nice...

  • Another thumbs up for the RC31s, they are very good indeed. However they do come with a weight limit of about 14st. so if you are of the larger persuasion you might be better off with on-ones carbon offering as they have no weight limit.

edit.... and a "bit" of flex is an understatement when talking about RC31's they are very flexy as already said above!

  • Ran these for about two years on my ss mountainbike. Great and make anything with suspension.feel like a fat slug. Found they could be ridden anywhere although got a few funny looks (and bruised hands) at afan. Wasn't slow over the rocks but you have to be really careful with your line. They are pretty tough as I have used them for dirt jumping but this is not recomended by pace.
Once you stop worrying about them flexing and watch the trail - ace. Wish I still had my ss mtb :-(
