It's in the original thread, but it is still such an insanely high price, you could be forgiven for thinking there had been no reduction.
Originally £200, Now £170, give it 4 weeks and they will be down closer to the £100 that they are worth.

They will remain in my Shed as my wet weather wheels before they go for £100.
As for what they are worth, you go and find another set . . . . . . anywhere

There are still quite alot of NOS cxp14 is various parts of Europe. I was talking to one of the men 'in the know' who may has access to a large stock in Italy for instance. He says about £60 for a pair, and he should have them within about a month.

Do you have to meet him in a motorway services car park and furtively exchange wrapped pairs of rims for used notes?
-
• #9
I'd say £80-£100 was a fairer price for a pair of cxp14 rims. Miche hubs are about £60ish a pair (well thats how much we sell em for) plus the price of spokes and build labour so I don't think £170 is out of the question at all! Set of Halo aerorage built wheels go for £170 new.............I know which I'd rather have for the money TBH.!
-

I would presume that if one were to buy some Halo's new then they would have a warranty.
You cannot compare the cost of purchasing hubs/rims individually new with complete second hand wheels.
If I bought the wheels in the OP (which I think are very nice to be fair) and the front flange cracked where would that leave me?
With the Halo's I could take them back to the shop and expect a full replacement or my money back.

you can tell who's been spending time up at that ruddy track with RPM... still, i don't disagree with gizmond for second hand wheels. You'd easily build these new for £200, £170 is also doable.

If I were given the choice between the two I'd still go for the Mavics, warranty or not. If you're the kind of rider that drops stairs and cycles backwards then I see where you're coming from, but personally thats not my thing...........Miche hubs don't break the bank so if something were to go wrong I wouldn't mind as much, not as much as say a set of DA's or phils. Obviously this is only my opinion and I'll stick by my guns and say that £170 is a fair price for this set of wheels.

I guess if you built the wheels yourself or knew someone who'd do it for free, met that guy in the service station with the cheap rims and got some second hand miche hubs well cheap plus cheap spokes then you could do it cheaper still........

shame the rims are laced to those hubs, really.

yeah, i hate it when that happens.

dmczone can you work your eBay magic and find me a 36H CXP30 for £20 please?
-
• #18
If you can wait I'm sure some will pop up within the next six weeks.
Or talk to Gizmond, as he seems to have all the track part connections this year.
-
• #19
I'll ask Gizmond if he can shake down his connection for one.

I'm retired. Just trying to clear out all the crap I have, then its officially personal use only from now on.

no, that was a realistic quote. Plenty of people on here pay too much for stuff rather than shop around.
dmc has removed the need for proof but it was based on £60 hubs + £30 spokes + £60 rims + £20 build. Very doable if you're on this forum and use the knowledge on here. Add another £10 cos you had to pay for the rims' postage and another £20 cos you couldn't find someone who would build you them for £20.. still only £200.

Thanks for sticking up for me. I didnt think the price was unreasonable, it may not be a give away, but on the same note im no rip off merchant.

36 hole CXP 14's in very good condition. Only used on track prior to me buying them. Probably only 100 miles use on road since including mild front brake use. These are hugely sought after for having no obvious machined brake surface and a very sharp V profile, coming to a much sharper edge in the middle than most modern aero rims. In production for two years only between 1998-'99. 622-13 actual size so narrow too, 2mm narrower than open pros.
Hubs are good condition Miche Primato high flange ones, single fixed on the rear. Minor marks on both hubs, but run smoothly with no play. All track nuts included. Brand new Miche lockring included also.
Recently rebuilt using DT revolution double butted spokes, yes the £1.10 each skinny ones! DT brass nipples.
Both run 100% straight, no dents or flat spots.
Amazing looking wheels, and ever so slightly hard to come by now.
£170 collected from Reading. May be able to meet in West London on a weekend.
Will add more close up photos if required.
Will make a nice forum donation when sold.
