Alot of rings aren't 100% true I wouldn't worry about it.
Unless you mean the profile isn't straight like a biopace/rotor?

if its steel you can stick it in a vice and cold set it back flat again, i think there's some info on that on sheldonbrown.com. anything else I's leave well alone

you must have eyes like a fucking hawk to see it is out of true by 0.5mm ;-)
My Campagnolo 53t chainring is very very slightly wavy at one point, I mean literally 0.5mm.
Will this provide me with any problems? I've read elsewhere they're easy to micro-adjust back into shape with a big spanner, but I'd rather not mess about with it if 0.5mm is trifling.
