chainwhip or rotafix
-
• #3
i have a chain whip, i actually was standing on it trying to loosen it, but still no movement

Get chainwhip horizontal, with wheel (tyre still on) wedged up against a wall/doorframe. With your weight right at the end of the chainwhip, rather than steadily applied pressure, give a few forceful 'thrusts' downwards (both hands). Relax. Repeat. And so on. Keep things in alignment, and don't suddenly scrape all the skin off your knuckles by veering into the spokes. It's a bit like a brutal version of giving CPR.
Don't walk into the light.

Wear gel mitts.. not only do they stop you scraping knuckles you can apply more force with less compression damage to your obviously feeble hands :)

Gel mitts?
Is your name 'Stefano' or something?

• #7
If all else fails you can cut it off with a dremmel

i was hoping to use the sprocket again, the wheel is fucked.
its not that i am a pansy, its that its stuck.
i GT85'd the shit out of it too.trying to find a new sprocket is proving hard, where is good for buying them on t'interwebs?

id try rotafix, it gives a hell of a lot of leverage, much more than a chainwhip, and wouldnt damage the cog anymore than a chainwhip would

WTF is GT85? You'll want a purpose made penetrating fluid.
If this stuff can loosen rusty bolts off my van it can handle your sprocket.

Just got some Halo hubs and have put a surly cog on no problem. wiggle seem cheap?

Awesome tip, just did the trick for me. Who says UTFS doesn't work?

I took a hammer to my chainwhip. Got my brother to lean on it then gave it a few big clonkers and off it came.
-

a hammer works. I think the initial shock is what does it. A few hard hits on the chainwhip with a mallet and they always come off. Good idea to use the up against the wall tip above.

I bent my chainwhip hitting it with a mallet. Was an icetoolz one so probably not particularly hardcore. Still couldn't shift the thing but it came off very easily rotafixing
how do you get a sprocket off?
i got the lockring off no worries but the sprocket is stuck tight.
i have no idea what the hub or cog is (OEM on an 08 bowery)
alternatively any suggestions for a new cog? 17t and for a Halo Aerotrack.
thanks!
