Seems Ok. How does it compare component wise with similar priced bikes that you can test ride?
-
• #3
Problem being I cant really test ride any bikes where that might show me really how good it is.
The only shop I know will let you take it out for the day if you leave the price of the bike in, 1100 being their starting price for full sus. -

The boardman bikes get great reviews in all the magazines.

shit forks and shock.
get a giant from pauls cycles if you want a cheap bouncer. -
• #6
I iz in Dublin.:(
Whats wrong with the fork and shock anyway?
If you can get something better for the money I will agree. -
• #7
x-fusion and RST are unipak better off with fox and rockshox.
-

Funny you say that because I was looking lately at a GT I-Drive XC4 3.0 an 07 model bought on 08.
Fox shock and rock shock fork. But 100 front and back?
He is looking for the €600 mark, I have been told the Idrive system is a pain tho, bushings and linkages breaking with parts being hard to source, only people I know selling them is Halfrauds. -

-
• #11
Problem being the people I will be riding are A much better than me and B all on full sus.

They sell Merida bikes in the shop im at, really good prices. Merida do a massive range of bikes road, commuter & mtb. Some of their full sussers look amazing. They are a big manufacturer making bikes for scott & the like, but I think their attention to detail is way higher. They put deore xt on basic hybrids for example!
If you find one you like I can check price & shipping for you. As long as you are not in ROI it should work out reasonable.

Hahaha nice one! The shop I work in has a supplier that can get me one at a good price.
Could you maybe pm me with something in my price range or less(trade price of course)

learn to get better on a hardtail and use your body to steer/corner. a full suss will just give you bad habits. let them wait for you if you are not as quick as them you can use the excuse of not having a bouncy bike.

Time for the "your legs give you 18" travel" argument.
Disclosure- I now ride full bounce.

If you know some one who'll sort you out a deal. Theres no need for me to do it, Im only a grease monkey dont have abilty to give you something at trade. I just think a lot of the merida bikes seem really good.
Look at this bike on this website, you can afford that its on special their anyway:
£829 (its 31% discounted from rrp)
Magura Louise brakes
Rock Shox RECON 351 85-130 u-Turn Forks
LX external BB chainset
XT gears

only a fool would argue that.
learning to use your legs and weight transfer to steer is how mountainbikes are ridden. i'm mediocre at best on a bike but i see plenty of people who think that just sitting there and pedaling is how it's done.
i too ride a susser after years on a hardtail. -

I have been told by most to go hardtail....But my thinking is I wont be able to afford to upgrade to full sus in the future..
Things are pretty tight at the mo plus im in full time education and will be for the foreseeable future.. -

I tried full sus for a while, and when the bike was goosed/too old to update I could only afford a hard tail. The full sus has improved my technique. My mates take centre stage on the downs but on the way back up.

Typo?

From what I've ridden of the south downs if you ride full suspension there will be nothing to challenge you and develop your skills. Good brakes are more important in my opinion than suspension. Currently I find my brakes the limiting factor in my speed off road downhill 90% of the time on the South downs riding ridgid. There are sections I could ride faster but don't because I can't brake for corners e.t.c further down because my brakes are less one finger lockup more three finger slight deceleration.

Well the closet trails to me are 3rock, unbuilt very rough hiking trails.
I have been told I wont get down them without full sus, weather that is true or not I dunno... -
• #24
I have not seen them so can't judge but even in the Dolimites I never road anything that wasn't doable with a hard tail, it was slower than fullsus but still not that difficult.
I'm not saying suspension is not nice to have but the requirement to have full sus when riding cross country is nearly always overstated IMO and frequently a over kill stopping people from developing their skills. If your into downhill / freeride stuff then it's a different story.

What do you think of this for price?

Shipping is €13.50 or so.
Any suggestions if you dont like it.
I know this seems like a waste of a thread but its allot of money for me to spend at once!
