If it really was the fault of the police car, emergency vehicles cause quite a few collisions. :(
A friend of mine was knocked off his bike years ago while couriering when a taxi did a U-turn in front of him. The policeman who attended the scene gave the cabbie a massive bollocking for doing U-turns.

Was this near E+C? Went round from Newington Causeway going to Camberwell last night and there was a big bi of road cordoned off with flashing blue lights.
Rode over a piece of metal which appeared to be a kickstand, and wondered if it came off a bike.
Not 1 hour earlier I saw a Taxi do a left turn (no indication) into a guy on a MTB on Fenchurch St.
Rider just shrugged it off, I would have gone mental
Traffic backed up all the way to Tower Bridge Road, Got to the scene, High powered motorbike on its side, Cop car halfway across the carriageway with its front caved in! Ambulance and shit loads of police present. Didn't see the rider - however I stopped and talked to a guy who has seen the whole thing. Basically bike coming down the bus lane, Police car appeared to do a u-turn into him - although it looked like the car actually came across from the other lane so was facing him - rather wierd - the witness couldnt work it out either. Anyway I think apart from a smashed leg he was ok.
Hope the fella heals up soon.
Also a commotion in Stockwell that both MOC and I witnessed at the same time (me on bike - him on tube!) Police frogmarching some kid off the platform.
