Specialized BG Sport, Taho or dhb M1 spd shoes

  • Has anyone got experience of using these shoes?
Thinking of getting into using clipless pedals.

    Specialized BG Sport mtb shoe
    Specialized Taho shoe
dhb M1 mtb shoe from Wiggle.

WHat do you think of these and can you suggest anything else similar to them at similar price point, £40-60.

    thanks

  • try them on, which pair fits best?

you pay for what you get

most popular shoe here is the sidi dominator, but costs a little bit more

  • Yup I will try them. Just wonder what folk think of these and any other shoes at that price.

  • i have both these:

    Specialized BG Sport mtb shoe
    Specialized Taho shoe.

The tahos are very comfortable to wear, but a bit of a pain overall. I found they didn't have very good grip when walking on anything wet, mud, pavement, you name it, they are very slippery (even when new, with/without cleats attached)

And my second point is that the tread is very soft so will rub down very quickly, exposing the cleat which will then get worn very quickly. I use crank brothers pedals which I understand have a 1mm deeper cleat than SPDs and I found I was walking on my cleats in the tahos from day 1.

Now, 6 months down the line, the tread has worn down to 2-3mm after light-moderate walking in them and my cleats after a single month of use are completely destroyed.

The tread on the SPORT MTB shoes is a much harder plastic compound which will take much longer to rub down. The tread is also deeper meaning even my crank brothers cleats are fully recessed, so cleats last longer and I dont sound like a pratt walking on metal cleats everywhere.

The SPORT MTBs take a while to get used to comfort wise, but now I find them comfortable.
They have the same sole as the comp MTBs but the comp MTBs come with studs. since the Sport MTBs have the same sole they have plastic covered holes for the studs, but turns out these arent threaded so dont get the SPORTs thinking you can put studs in them easily.

When I first got my SPORT MTBs they were squeaking because they were rubbing on my pedal axle (egg beaters) but after some scalpel work on the shoes all is ok.

The tread is very good in the sport MTBs, very grippy in mud.

  • drdingy: Great, thanks for the reply. So rule out the Taho's.
Sport mtb's are good in your book, good for cycling, walking is fine.

    Any other thoughts anyone?
