• That is, what would surprise you least?

I know this will prompt a long long discussion about stereotypes, how there's no such thing as 'normal', and how you can't generalize, etc. etc., but I'm genuinely interested to find out what people think about this.

And I'm actually wondering more about how you see your friends and acquaintances than your own standards. (e.g. I'm not remotely the moving-in type myself, but that doesn't stop me being slightly amazed when a couple have been together for 6 years and are still living apart, and worried/sceptical when friends move in together after dating for less than a month.)

  • as soon as your both happy to do so.

  • A month is definitely not normal blushes

  • Took me over 3 n a half years, that's about right

  • There's no such thing as 'normal', you can't really generalise about these things...
    ^ What murts said...

  • Gosh, two replies before I even got the poll up. Some of you people have far too much time on your hands! (Says she, who clearly has time to indulge in pointless amateur sociology.)

  • 2 years for me...

Well, if there's no such thing as normal, can't you at least pick two extremes you'd consider unusual (such as 2 days and 20 years) and split the difference?

  • I moved in with someone after a month. I stayed there for 10months. Moved 265 miles and all. Never again rush that soon for sure.

I would say 1-2 years would be the best imho

    :-$

My feelings exactly now, when I think about what I did.

I was pullin' yer leg, silly... I've gone to both extremes, from not moving in with someone at all after being with them for ages to moving in with someone after just a coupla months... It really doesn't matter if you're both happy with the idea...
An old mate of mine didn't wanna move in with his girlfriend, when a room became available in his flatshare she took it without asking him... Six months later she decided she wanted to buy a flat, he didn't want to but they bought a place anyway... He eventually told her he didn't love her when she stopped taking the pill and would jump on him when she was ovulating... An extreme case that has very little bearing on your situation but it still makes me laugh... He was such a pussy...

  • I moved in my with my wife in the first month we were seening each other and we are now married for 4 happy years .

A friend of mine had a 9 years relashionship and ended up after all these years ...

    theres no law for it

Do what you feel like to do without any pressure :)

  • I know a chap who has been together with his GF for 7 years and they live apart. He cheats on her and is a prick though.

Moved in with my wife after 18months and she hasn't booted me out yet

    ''Horses for courses'' [edscoble]

  • Fuck knows.

We've never lived apart and got engaged after 4 months. Some people think that is odd. I think that some people are odd.

    Horses + Courses innit?

  • It depends on their religious persuasion.

  • depends on the combined rents you are paying doesn't it ?

  • If it feels right then do it, MOC and I were practically living together after a month but left it until 6 months when he officially moved in, now I can't get rid of him or his computers !*

    *but wouldn't want to.

I should probably point out, I'm not looking for advice here! (Learned the hard way that LFGSS very definitely isn't the place for that.) I'm just very interested to know what people's attitudes are.

  • I just moved in with my other half, after 8.5 years

I'm a bit slow at making things happen though

  • Oh, and

    aaaaaaaaaaaargh!

    (and LOL)

  • that's what i was just thinking? What did happen?

  • C'mon Emilia, what you really mean is:

"How is long is it normal to be seeing someone after they've taken you to your first mosque before moving in together?"

    ;)

Whatever happened with that girl anyways?

    ^ nosey fucker!

  • I'd say at least a year, ideally two.

  • Mrs. Bikers46 and I, sans children at any point, married for the first time in our 40's and didn't live together before then. This is the only relationship I have been involved in where I didn't live with someone while not being married and it's actually working. So, to tie this together, for myself, not "moving in" turned out to be the right thing to do.

BTW, we met on the web 2690 miles apart. I moved to her to wed a year later, and we are still rocking after 7 years.
