  • i'm after a greenspot nomad jacket. these were sexy oldschool jackets that used to be made by bertram dudley, but dont seem to be anymore. i'd like an original one. anyone got one in the back of their wardrobe?

i'd actually like to either buy one or just borrow one to have a look at how it was constructed. lemme know... cheers.

  • Excuse me, I'm just curious.. do you have a picture of one?

  • Despite a prolonged search I failed to find anything equivalent to the Greenspot jackets once made by Bertram Dudley. But I did find a small company that made me a good copy out of Ventile, lined with gaberdine, for £110. It's a fine job and I'm well pleased with my new Super Nomad jacket! I expect there are other firms that could do this, but I can recommend Hilltrek, Ballater Road, Aboyne, AB34 5HT; tel: 01339 886062.

  • That's a great looking Jacket, I'd be interested to know how you get on with Hilltrek.

The Cycling Ventile® is an updated Double Ventile version of the much loved but sadly no longer available Greenspot Cycling Jacket made by Bertram Dudley and Son of Yorkshire.
Our version features 6 zipped pockets two breast, two front and two rear hip pockets, suitable for holding an OS map. A detachable hood is available.

  • bdw: do you have an original one then?

  • frayed knot Teddster - but I was chatting to the fella who runs Old Hat in Fulham about old school cycling apparel.

He's been remaking a load of tweed classics for the japanese market and has a fairly enyclopedic knowledge about old clobber [had an interesting chat to him about old motorbike clothing] and you can ask him to keep an eye out an original nomad jacket

Might be worth popping in when you're next in town, he's got his tailoring shop next to the vintage clothes shop just over putney bridge

  • i'd actually like to either buy one or just borrow one to have a look at how it was constructed. lemme know... cheers.

    You're looking into making jackets?

Andy FGL showed me a lovely jacket that they were making. It'll only be a limited run, but proper waterproof stuff... think Helly Hansen Gore Tex, but structured to fit a cyclist body. All of the comfort and warmth of being at home when you're out in a winter storm.

It's a truly great jacket, you should go chat with him as he'll have some leads I suspect, and if you're not looking to build a trad jacket but were just hoping to buy a jacket to fit your needs then wait for the FGL one, it's a really quality piece of work with proper sealed seams and a durable finish.

  • see, i don't want a techy jacket. i've got a gore jacket and a rapha jacket. they're both really well made -- waterproof, comfy and warm. but i always feel a bit like they're part of a costume or something when i wear them. i'd love to have something that just looked like a jacket. does that make sense?

i'll drop by old hat. that's good suggestion...

  • Just bumping this to say i bought a Super Nomad. Its bloomin LOVELY! Very warm, weatherproof, and all round gentlemanly-loike. The rear pockets take a krypto mini, too, which I assume is just a happy accident.

All my other jackets now have jacket aidz when this is hanging in the hall, begging to be worn.

A (tentative) hearty recommendation. Only had it for three weeks.

All thanks to BDW and teddy for starting the thread. Have you managed to find an original one yet teddy? Its funny that I kind of recognise the old one (perhaps from that old french teacher at my school who cycled every day), how the zip stops short of the front panel. Was the original waxed? Ventile fabric on the Hilltrek one seems very good so far.

  • Any chance of a pic of one of you chaps wearing said jacket?

  • There^^! Up there. That's me.

I could talke a pretty basic snap with my phone. any detail you need to see?

  • Lol - Just wanted to see how it fits, but seen a pic on their website now, so no need

  • Sorry Skully old chap, but it's not clear which jacket you bought, is it the cassin linked to above?

  • I wanna see skully in the jacket

[nothing else mind, perhaps a cheeky over the shoulder pose, finger on lips kind of thing…]

  • cheeky indeed.

    @andyp what?! Cassin? huh?

  • Thanks. I'll have a fondle when I see you next.

  • Ventile is ace.

  • I'm about to find out just how ace it is.

  • oooh, suits you sir!

  • How ace was it?

  • Fucking ace ace.

  • That comment is useless without grainy mobile phone pics.

  • oooh, suits you sir!

This more your style when you're going out for chips and scraps and gravy?
