In my family, out of 5 children we were 4 left-handed kids to the despair of my French grandmother "this is not from our side of the family" looking accusingly at my English dad. My grandmother's grandmother was an alcoholic, her sister died of alcohol and cocaine abuse but at least they were right-handed. But she was right, it turned out that my English grandfather was the one with the wrong gene, he had been forced to use his right hand.

My brothers were "studied" by a psychologist in the very early 60s and declared 100% left handed and primary school teachers compared us with normal people to see if our hand writing suffered. "Calligraphy" was very important in French primary schools. Luckily, we were never forced to change our wrong ways.
