I don't really want to because they are original raleigh parts so doubt I well be able to find head tube/ stem bolts the same.

or get armourtex to sanblast them for you. frankly, though, dmczone has it right, would be easier and better to get a new headset with cartridge bearings. £10-£20.

Careful Raleigh used to use 21.1mm stems (instead of the 22.2mm the rest of the world use) and larger diamter frame cups. Get your verniers out and check the stem is 22.2mm not 21.1mm, if it is 22.2mm then check headtube ID is 29.8-29.9 if it is you can fit any JIS 1" headset, if its 30.0 to 30.1mm you can use any Euro headset.
Hope this helps,

try fine wet and dry sandpaper, then buff on the bench grinder with the polishing mops until sparkling.
did it a few weeks ago, and very impressed with the results. My LBS owner told me to do it rather than him sell me a new set. -

Put it in the bin. Its not gonna be a problem finding a headset to fit. Just take it to your lbs to sort out if your worried.
