• I have a pair of Chater Lea 'cottered' cranks for sale (the kind known as 2-pin, as the third chainring bolt screws into the right crank arm). The arms are the 'fluted' kind. I think this two-pin pattern is later for Chater Lea, so 1950s.

They have been rechromed at some point, so the chater lea logo is a little faint, but still there.

I bought them from hilary about 18 months ago in really good condition. They now have a couple of marks on the chrome - some has come off the round end of the crank, and one or two small marks. The chainring thread in the DS arm and the pedal threads are in good condition.

The bolts still have their chroming on the part that exposes through the chainring, and with locktite they have been secure ridden fixed.

£70 for the cranks with bolts. The bolts are hard to come by.

    I have two 'CL' lettering-patterned rings, a 1/8" 48t in good condition and a 42t 3 3/2" in good condition.
    £15 each.

The changer I have to sell is a Cyclo Benelux coil-spring type (Mk3 I believe), from a 5 speed bike dating from late 50s/early 60s. It and the Benelux shifter are in excellent nick. The shifter is for a braze-on, and has the big knurled lever damper on top like the bottom middle photo here:http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/cyclobenelux.html

I have a late 50s/early 60s 5speed screw-on freewheel in excellent condition, not sure which brand but must be solid stuff as it's still smooth and the teeth are in really good nick.

£50 for the gear set and freewheel.

I have a few sets of pedals suitable for steel cranks too (they have the unusual shorter spindle-thread), some nice but tired-looking campagnolo (not sure from which group), two pairs of lightweight lyotards and a no-name quill pair with one bent plate. Campag pedals £10, Lyotard £5 each pair, the no-names £2.

    PM for photos.

Would sell the whole set (incl both rings) to a puppy-resurrector for £130, with the campag pedals mentioned thrown in too.

  • Pictures on my flickr of this ^ stuff plus a pair of Airlites 40/32. The front one is in great nick, the rear has flaky bubbled chrome urr ahem I mean Patina on the barrel. The spoke wear on both is pretty minor. The bearings and cones feel good and solid, axles straight. £20 for the front, £10 for the rear.

  • Hi Tiswas.

Looks like the cranks and 48t ring has gone.

If you're building a bike with gears you'll want a 3 3/2", no? I haven't cleaned that one it but it should polish up OK if you want it, anyway. Sorry the first PM was yesterday from 'aufbruch'. He was in there like flynn once I had the pics.

My changer's almost perfect, a couple of patches on the back of the pulley cage thingy, and the domed plate under the adjuster of the shifter is a little flaked. Let me know if you want it.

Sure you can take the campag pedals. The driveside feels a little sluggish could do with a regrease.

Airlites: I believe the front OLN is 98mm (with the older narrow axles naturally). The rear is spaced either to 115 or 110 but I will check that.

  • Give me shout if you want to see the pedals / hubs, I work W1, live E2. Sometimes go to south drinks, too.

  • Shifter, mech, freewheel and Chater Lea 3/32" chainring going on the 'Bay today.

  • WTF is it with ebay!? Loads of watchers and no bids ... grrrr. When I like something I just put a bid in straight away, one bid only no pissing around. If you win you win, if you don't, you don't. All these pricks with their snipers trying to be clever. I think I might pull the auctions and sell them on ctc/retro forums.

  • Yep, long gone. Went for peanuts.

  • Did you ever sell the CL cranks?

  • Yep, sold for good money on here.

  • What about that front Airlite?
