  • Anyone know if there's an annual summer shutdown at Bob Jackson Cycles? Over the past 3 weeks I've emailed 4 times and called loads but I get no response. I've been told that they can sometimes be hard to get hold of, but I really want to confirm a few details with them and then give them a fist full of cash for a Vigorelli.

    Peace.

    Kurt

  • also trying to get in touch with them but with no joy. anyone been able to get them on the phone recently?

  • Edscoble has a direct line apparently.......

maybe ask him if you can use it?

  • Wanna buy a Vigorelli?

Grey tubes, white lugs and lime green headtube???

    Size 56ish

Brand new never ridden 400 smackeroos.

  • Paul at BJ responded to an email I sent him last week and I also spoke to him on the phone on Saturday - so I had no problems contacting them a few days ago. Whether they're shutdown for a summer break since then I don't know...

  • They have a special phone, it basically rates any callers from London using an advanced form of the 'hipster bingo' system. If you ain't got enough points they ain't picking up.

  • I was in their shop last week- no sign of a summer shutdown.

  • I got a fucking super-surly email off them two weeks ago - wont be trying to contact them again mind.

  • They answer my calls no problem

  • Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. Just gotta keep trying. Except on a Wednesday, they are shut on a Wednesday.

  • On doing my homework for a new frame I sacked bob jackson off quite early on cos they seemed well unfriendly and unhelpful. May have just been bad luck but it sealed their fate unfortunately (for them).

  • Shame really, I suppose they've reach to the point that they sold enough frame not to worry about customer service perhaps?

A few manners would'nt go a miss even if they don't/can't provide a service.

If that were the case then they are foolish indeed.

  • What did you went for in the end? Mercian? Yates? Rourke?

  • Mercian and yes, I'm still struggling with choosing a colour... eek!

I've spent most of this afternoon painting little bits of tubing with various shades of enamel paint. I shit you not.

  • Hah! I thought your original colour on the Bob Jackson (lime green, dark green, white) was perfect.

  • Think it helps if you don't sound like a southern softy

  • Why? Because Northerners hate Southerners? I'm not sure that's really an issue for the vast majority of thinking people, especially when you're about to pay a massive premium for an archaic bike frame.

  • Think it helps if you don't sound like a southern softy

make no difference, it's just varies on how you sound really, i.e. polite, demanding, etc.

  • Hah! I thought your original colour on the Bob Jackson (lime green, dark green, white) was perfect.

Hmm, problem is that Mercian don't do the green I'd like and I'm wary about colour-matching. They have a green which is my 'safe' option though. Also I don't know my own mind on this decision and I keep getting distracted by vivid blues and rich oranges... actually bored of thinking about it now. Whadya reckon?

Ed, the blue BJ of yours (or should I say your Dad's?) looks absolutely lust. You've done a good job there for sure. I have a box of bits here just waiting. sometimes i get them out, look at them lovingly and sigh.

  • No they don't dislike southerners in my experience (hates a strong word).

  • I had some less than welcoming email replies when they were dealing with my resprays, were fine over the phone I found though.
