    is this page:

    http://www.godivafestival.co.uk/the-festival/the-arena-sunday/

Which I completely failed to read, so only by chance bumped into the Rollapaluza team at 3.50pm as they were about wrapping up.

Had I known I'd have spread the word far and wide - I'm sure some of you Brum folk might've made the trip...? I've now met and asked the guy from CSWP (http://london2012.cswp.org.uk/) to keep me posted if he's planning any other cycling promotion events in the future - I'll spread the word if there's owt.

In other news, Caspar & Winston asked if I knew of anywhere in Birmingham that was suitable to hold an event - there's a national tour planned. I told them best to post here to ask, so watch this space.

P.s. Big up S.Stewart from Cov who rode 2 sub 20 sprints the quicker of which I'm told places him 5th all time in the Rollapaluza standings... not bad at all :)

  • roller racing is the work of the devil.

ideally you want somewhere outdoors to catch passers-by but with the option of going indoors if its raining. theyve done it at aston uni before (i won, not because im fast but because everyone else was slow), but then you mostly get students and not the general public.

i dunno, the town hall perhaps? obviously the more popular the better, but also the more expensive.

  • perhaps a pub with a big beer garden? flapper and firkin? maybe the wrong crowd though. erm... uhh.

i remember casp saying its best to have somewhere that they can bring the mobile bar, so maybe a pub is not the best place. me and thom spent ages trying to think of somewhere private, that's popular and doesnt have its own bar, and is in the city centre. no chance! Epic skatepark was all we could come up with but that's a bit far from centre.

A big bike shop would be good but I doubt the manager would be happy, too much potential for stock to go missing...

  • Fucking Snap, man.

I remembered the godiva festival was on around midday wasnt really too excited about going to it because no-one was around to go with me. After checking the website I realise that rollapullza are there!!

That sealed the deal I had to go, ive wanted a shot at roller racing for ages. I tried to get lifts of friends but no one was around. So I jumped on my bike and headed up coventry road on whim not actually knowing the route. It took me ages as I wasnt sure bikes were allowed on the busy A45 in certain parts where the signs seemed to indicate that it was actually turning into the M42

I finally got there however, tried to find the roller guys first and after a good while of hunting round massive park I find the obscure and dissapointingly desterted olympic sprt demonstration area. The roller guys in the far corner, packing up! - fuck.

Went and said hello, had a look round the festival but all the best stuff was finished yesterday.

    Oh, well!

Winston, rapsac/caspar and the other fellas said they were looking for a Birmingham venue to hold a proper rollapolluza night for their national series. (edit - snap again, were like mirroring)

  • Unlucky!

Fair play for braving the A45 - if you wanna demo of a nicer route to/from Cov gimme a shout sometime.

Could've easily drifted past each other, I left them whilst they were packing up and I was chatting to Will the CSWP organiser for a bit before I left the arena.

15 mins earlier it was buzzing with all the different sports demo's, but rollers were still in the wrong place - tucked away in a corner not very high profile for what would've been a big crowd pleaser.

  • I think the rollapolluza guys would like to have it at a proper 'night out' venue, with lots of normal people, not just us bikey types.

The events at epic (now creation) were put on by the old owner keith. He got in trouble & raided by police loads of times for illegal events, booze & drugs onsite. I dont think they have events anymore.

But somewhere with young sporty types might be good in terms of competitors. There is not many places which do not have their own bar, are you sure the guys still rely on selling drinks? Sounds a bit old skool DIY.

If they want somewhere corporate with loads of people. The walkabout on broad st might be good. I know theyve had premiere screenings for downhill mtb films there before, I 'Think' these kinda adventure sports type people are supposed to hang out there, but ive never been in.

Broad st might be good for big exposure to large volumes of drunken money spending folks. Nicer places would be pubs like the hare & hounds or the Victoria on John Bright St:

The upstairs room is available for FREE hire subject to achieving a minimum bar spend. This amount varies depending on which night you are interested in but starts at £250 for a Monday to £750 for a Saturday. Depending on the time of year and the level of demand for the room these amounts may be negotiable, just give us a call to discuss.

  • OMG...I have met Deadly Fanny Pack!

  • well dfp I was gonna suggest the sports bar on broad street, since racing is a sport. but with it being full of tossers and wankers, i didnt even want to think about it long enough for the thoughts to be able to reach the end of my fingers and be transmitted via the keyboard. but maybe the sports bar would be a good idea. or how about the mailbox for a less boozy atmosphere? advantage being that BBC journo's and cameramen wouldn't have to travel far to get their story & shots

  • me and thom considered scruffys, but can goths pedal fast in those big boots?

  • C'mon - lets ask Kent at the Rainbow! He's facing closure due to the Noise Abatement Order, but is raising funds to pay for the Roof that will cover the garden area - so that music can continue...
    Save (my) Digbeth!

  • I noticed the Godiva festival website had no mention...
