• For the aid of all newbs, I thought we could have a Glossary thread, so that the less knowledgable can begin to understand WTF half these posts are about.

ie...

VAZ - Mario Vaz, South London resprayer of frames. Produces cheap work of dubious quality, that by all accounts chips easily.

Now... can someone please explain what NOS stands for?

• New Old Stock

[stuff we've had in the stockroom for so long that it's become a 'classic'}

• New Old Stock

• Cheers...

EAI - Europe Asia Imports

• VAZ - Mario Vaz, South London resprayer of frames

• WTF........oops sorry

• lol

• ok someone is gonna have to list all of the "___enger"

• listenger.

• pienger.

• BB-bottom bracket
ctc - centre to centre ie measuring frame, centre point of end of tubing
ctt - centre to top
BLB - brick lane bikes, fixed gear shop which sells good bikes at not so good prices
LBS - local bike shop
RLJ - red light jumping
BCD - ...... chain diamter, spacing on chainrings
16T - 16 tooth sprocket
fakenger - someone who dresses/acts/rides/has a bike like a messenger, but not is a messenger
fixies - fixed gear riders
ss - single speed

• I though BCD = Bolt Circle Diameter, the dia of the holes where you chainring bolts fit.

• it is

• actual bolt hole width always same, but you measure from centre out to bolt hole ;) for BCD

• fixie = horrible term.

• tallsam fixie = horrible term.

Yeah I hate it

• andrewleitch86
tallsam fixie = horrible term.

Yeah I hate it
me too,

• twatster = someone who rides a specialised langster
wrongster = london langster

• cheers buddy, i did coin it after all...hehe

• wrongster = London Langster (aka Wangster)

• fakelyst - someone pretending to ride a bike, or worse, wearing lycra whilst going about their daily business

• BillB I though BCD = Bolt Circle Diameter, the dia of the holes where you chainring bolts fit.

Bolt Circle Diameter is a the size of the circle created on the crank spider by the bolt holes. The lower the diameter, the closer to the BB they are.

• oops, read it wrong, it is centre to centre across the bolt holes

• Campagmano/Shimanolo - (sometimes Horrible - depending on your POV*) mishmash of Campag and Shimano parts

I'm sure you could apply it to other bike parts
Michour - Miche/Suntour (heaven forbid)
Dia-conman - Dia-Compe/Weinman

etc....

*POV - erm.... point of view

• Bonking - a shortage of cake
skip-stops - a way of increasing Michelin share prices
loose chain - what you have 2 seconds before an earth-sky-earth-sky-ambulance moment
one less car - "My grammar is appalling"
cup & cone bearings - You will spend a lot of time with your hands covered in grease and that mysterious black dust scrabbling around under cupboards looking for recalcitrant bearings
