• a really ugly incident at the crossroads of Church Rd - Grand Ave about 9ish as I rode by this morning. Unfortunately from what I saw it looked like another case of passing on the inside of a left turning HGV. The rider had been pulled clear and was moving but his bike was wrapped around the back wheels of this massive skip truck just like the one that nearly took out Boris Johnson. I do hope he's okay, take care out there.

  • Really hope the guy's alright. ride safe

  • Work right by this. Heard people talking. Sounds brutal. Hope they're ok.

  • man i hate those words - hope its just the bike that got damaged!!! surely someone in the HGV licensing dept. MUST realise that there is a NEED for proper education on this kind of thing!

  • shit, hope there ok, i did actually have a go at sitting and cornering in a HGV, 15tonner this afternoon; and even with the cyclist-safe mirrors fitted and adjusted correctly, i can now understand what a driver means by the ambient noise and engine noise while manouvering at low speeds, i am by no means making ANY excuses for any unfortunate incidents that have happened; but have now seen things from both sides of the story. Ride safe!

  • Yeah totally Harvey, its been said many times on here and Moving Target but basically its in a cyclists best interest to always put a very generous distance between yourself and a HGV either at the front, back or sides.

It seems unclear as to what exactly happened at this crash as a big incident help board is up at the spot today.

  • Hope the gentleman is okay

  • hmm i agree it must be a mutual effort for us all to keep safe - i usually go into SUPER-ALERT-HYPER-REACTION-AWARE MODE [+ alpha] when around the big rigs - but in some traffic situations /circumstances you just get forced/ find urself in a real precarious situation real fast...

and for me the reflex action is either a) GO GO GO get ahead and get out or get crushed OR b) GET TO THE CURB, stand and wait for it to pass...

its tough out there - any more news about this?

  • Keep getting lorries delieratly pushing me to the kerb on the coast road, they think its a laugh but its not going to be long till I get seriously injured, I just always ride as if everyone n the road is trying to kill me.
