i was looking at a red sparkle brigdestone frame, $680 + $120postage + import stuff and some of the paint is a little flakey in places, very nice though. Are they just deer because of 'NJS'?

I have had a frame from here and 4 of my friends have also, very good service.
Gabe gives you what you want and what dream bikes are made of.
you pay for what you want though.worth it IMO

that shiny NJS logo will double a bikes price

i think you're looking at something like £50 if you get stung on the customs

I got charged £35 tax on a pair of cranks from Gabe.

or £150 even, and yes, it price higher due to it's being stamped as MOT, I mean NJS, useless really.

The states charge about 10% from the contents value, i presume a delivery from japan would be quite a bit more. Don't think anything as extreme as £150 but expect to pay up some serrias dowwah unless you can convince the seller to write down the price of the package to something stupidly low.

I heard that import tax could be up to 30%. That was just people talking though... however, it was enough to make me buy English!
-

Import tax depends on the product, if you google 'uk import tax on steel bicycle frame' you should get the rate. You have to VAT on top, so it's going to be something like a total 20% on top of what you paid for the frame.
It seems that lots of people get lucky and don't have to pay anything.

You have to remember that Keirin frames are hand made, one at a time, and custom fitted for the original rider. The work of the framebuilders is exquisite. Not necessarily better than British or Italian, but on a par with the best in the world.
The NJS tag does bump the price up, though

...generally you have to pay the Import duty, VAT and Parcel Force handling fee - about £130!
-
• #15
some of those frames are near £1k must be crazy to pay that for a second hand frame that's been raced with no warranty, it seems a bit of metalflake mixed in the paint makes people go nuts.
-
• #16
Yea i did think that, there's a couple with dings/dents on the top tube and they are still $600 +

I've purchased loads of stuff from NJS Export now. Gabe is very helpful, responds quickly to emails and shipping is ultra quick (i.e. i've had stuff in less than a week!).
I also recently bought a NOS Vivalo frame from japan too. If you're going this route beware of the shipping and import duty. I paid in the region of £60 for shipping and £170 for import duty, just remember to budget that into the ££££ frame you got your eye on ;-)

the good news is though that in the last few weeks the mighty green ones dropped from a 0.66 exchange rate to 0.61
So it's now getting cheaper and more economical to buy frames for $$$ rather than £££
Go for it though dude, they currently have a 10% off on all frames so it'll save you some money and customs charges won't come as such a disappointment.

The final figure depends on the value of the frame in the first place...

This is true...
Many of the second hand NJS frames have dings on them, which means they're no longer fit to race - at least with the NJS certification.

I might just go for it and bite the bulllet on the import tax's. Keep an eye for some for sale threads in the near future! Cheers for your help n tips.

Also means they have been crashed
but it's awesome to own (the more battered up ones) as someone else used it for intensive use on track making the previous life of the frame a track-racing breed.

don't edit that. it's really precious and quite endearing.

true - figure based on a £600 frame with EMS included!
-

Dinged, not necessarily crashed...
But, $900 (including shipping and tax) for a second hand, dinged frame and forks?
You're into custom Mercian territory!
I know which I'd go for.
Can't seem to find this anywhere on the forum which i'm sure it will be but...
Has anyone bought a frame through here before? Obviously there will be the import tax n that but there's a few nice ones.
