It's a very good book, that's why people rate it. If you want to learn how to build wheels there's a lot worse places to start.
I wouldn't bother with the home-made jig though. -

Get a copy of The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst Brandt. You're local library may be able to order it for you. It's very extensive.

+1 andyp, jobst brandt's book is the one definitive wheel building book and leaves little to add (that you couldn't work out yourself).

This will be JB's book that was published here...
I emailed JB some time ago to let him know its existance but it's probably very difficult to stop this kind of theft. Mr Schraner's book is also there. Thankfully not mine but I know it's been passed around the bike community foc.
The next edition will be closely tied to a password protected area on the WP website so valid purchasers can access more information.
rocker9455, don't be skeptical, they are all genuine. Honest!
Definitely make the truing stand, it's what I use every day since I cannot find anything better.

i would recommend taking apart an old wheel that will give you a great starter lesson on wheel building get a feel for the wheel learn what direction things need to be turned and tweaked
then put together same wheel
thats the way i taught myself well that and a bit of help from arup -

I have Musson's book and i found it very very good. i built four of those truing stands and they've been very helpful. not as sturdy as a metal one, but infinitely more useful than using your bike.
there is a DT Swiss Wheelbuilding DVD somewhere online which is pretty good as well.

I've been looking at various wheel building books too - would v.much like pdf copy of book you mention :)
Hey guys,
so i thought this would be the most appropriate forum to post this in as its kind of fixing stuff :)
Ive been looking at Roger Mussons Wheel building book (£9) not sure whether to get it or not, hes got one of those Buy my book (PDF) and you will instantly become a good wheel builder, obviously i know this isnt true (no pun intended) but i was interested in his DIY truing stand, has anyone come across this book at all or not?

On MTBR its got loads of positive reviews but im kind of skeptical of them, not 1 bad review, makes me wonder if hes payed people to do it or something. .
