  • If you lock your bike up anywhere near where Baker St. meets Oxford St. (especially on the railings outside the big M&S) make sure you have a decent lock or put it somewhere else.

Saw a young guy (about 19/20) in black baseball cap, black jacket, black jeans with distinctive decoration in gold on the right leg of the jeans, white guy, wispy little tash, skinny, about 5ft 6in, scouting out bikes locked up to the railings while I was waiting for a couple of mates who were still inside the M&S. He sidled up to a mountain bike with a crap cable lock on it and took out some cutters, bold as you like but sort of half trying to be subtle. As soon as he put the cutters onto the lock I stepped in towards him and just said 'I wouldn't do that if I were you'. He gave it the old 'I'm not doing nuffin' before slipping them back inside his coat and walking off. I informed security inside the store who had been keeping an eye on him but weren't aware he was trying to steal bikes. The guard was very good and said they'd be watching out for him around the bikes now and if he actually cut a lock they'd detain him and call the police.

I was tempted to go back into M&S to buy some bright yellow pants to wear on the outside of my trousers :-)

  • Good work Joel.

  • Nice one

  • Snap a pic next time.. and good work.

  • Snap his leg next time...nah, seriously, nice one!

  • I bought a delightful smoked salmon sandwich from there not 10 minutes ago.

Didn't see a golden legged pikey though.

    Well done.

  • pants over trouser FTW.

  • Good work sir.

  • Joel rules!

  • Exellent work.

  • top work

  • Easties crew stopped a bike theft last night too. Well, not entirely. They managed to nick one (not a forumenger's) but a couple were saved. The fncking cheek!

Well done VanUden. Good to know that there are some decent peeps out there watching out for other cyclists and their bikes.

  • nice one!

  • I was having a cigarette outside work in Soho Square and this guy was locking his bike up to the railings beside the edge bar. We started chatting.

He explained to me that he didn't want to lock his bike at the bike stands just outside the square because he had just seen two guys with wire cutters nick a bike.

He said they were young looking, might be the same guy. I guess theives are starting to target the Soho area.

    Top work VanUden.

  • bravo to you sir.

i hope your around when somebody tries to steal mine.

  • yay! Super Joel!

  • Further to PicKle's post, I was at The Coach & Horses on Greek st Friday eve and when I was at the bar my mate stopped some tealeafing pikey bastard from nicking my bars opposite the pub, it would seem the other 20 folks outside were too busy drinking to notice.

  • String em up by the balls!!! F'ing hate those trash! Loads of em hanging around Oxford Street, New Oxford Street.

  • Nice one VanUden, and pajamas for last night.

  • WIN! well done dude

  • Joel

Fantastic work. Someone out there will be entirely oblivious to your saving their bike, feel proud of yourself.

  • Good work. Vigilante FTW!

  • My Hero x

  • Joel for President.
