Macmillan is a brilliant charity - I'd be up for it if it was at a weekend.
-
• #3
I would definitely do it on the weekend, Jacqui has said she might help out, if any old hands want to rally people/suggest routes, it would also be appreciated :)

A close friend of mine works for Macmillan; she maybe able to throw us some stuff - sponsorship, logo endorsed clothing etc
Any thoughts?

hi Spudger. How are you?
My 52 Claud Butler is project is moving VERY slowly.
See that you are down for the Vintage Jersey Ride II. I'm nowhere near ready. Have spotted a nice Raleigh jersey though.1.Emilio666

Really open to suggestions from people who know them (i'm pretty new to cycling), should be good to get one earlier rather than later, so people get more of an idea.
I have ordered the pack

How about a route that starts/ends in Cambridge, more specifically Addenbrookes, a key hospital in the fight against cancers.
Cambridge only a short train ride out from Liverpool Street or Kings Cross on a Sat or Sun morning.
Cambridge Fixed - Route suggestions?
-

My friends name is Hannah Kofshun. She's a new recruit, less than a month I believe.
Should I mention to her that such a ride is going ahead? Plus what was the proposed date for the cycle?
With reference to the Cambridge route...is everyone from that part of the world?
Something a touch closer to London might be preferable.
Mister G.

As a route selection - how about a ride past hospitals in London?
Royal Marsden, UCH, St Mary's, GOSH, etc.
-
• #14
Good shout for hospitals. Plus being in London there is a far greater chance of riders.
-
• #15
i really like your idea stompy, I think the hospital route is a really appropriate idea. Will need to find a nice route round them.
Cool, I will put forward some dates, so that we can agree on the best possible weekend for this.
Officially coffee mornings is on the 25th of September but we dont have to stick to this. -
• #16
With t-shirts / logos or somrthing it will be good publicity.
-
• #17
Before we get in touch about logos/shirts we need to firm up numbers and a date I reckon.

It'll be difficult to get firm numbers. The ride will probably grow to about 150 people.
-
• #19
Growth is good!
We really should do the actual day (25th Sept) but then again the Saturday might be more appropriate as no one will have to take a day off work...
...either way I'm easy for which ever day.

25th would be better, but 26th more convenient.
Has anyone got an idea about a route? I wouldn't mind doing a recce run but not till next month. - At least if I help with the route, it will be as flat as possible.

If this gets popular (which is likely), maybe heading out of town would be better... a Box Hill loop could work with cakes halfway?

...on a fixed wheel bike...THAT'S MENTAL!
Let's keep it hospital route.
Mister G.
-
• #23
Box Hill isn't difficult.. just tuck your blouse into your undies..
I'm the official ex-forum fatty (Ha! sucked in CrazyJames!) and I can roll up that no problemo.. -
• #24
I'll somehow try and make this if I feel I can handle it.
-
• #25
Kudos to you my friend...
...my concern is the snaky winding road of Boxhill. That is a mission on a geared bike. Fixed wheel will take a long time.
In all seriousness the hospital route is poignant.
London is easier than Boxhill? Isn't it?
Gilles.
Hey people,
I'm pretty new to the forum, and Macmillan is a charity I would really like to help out, for both personal and professional reasons. They provide help and support for people suffering and affected by cancer (6 million in the UK) They even pay the NHS to hire nurses!
Every year there is something called a "world's biggest coffee morning", people make coffee and cakes and people give them money to cover costs and then some on top.
I was thinking about doing a ride, I would provide some food/sandwiches and organise it all, and people would donate a fiver or tenner depending what they can afford to go on this, is there room for a ride like this? Is there interest?
It is officially Friday 25th September, but we could do it any time that we could get the most people down.
