  • After having met many obstacles in my profession from ageist's to tax frauders to general unprofessional encounters and rude bosses, i have decided and am looking into starting up my own 'small' business in north london and showing the dental community that we arent 'all that bad and overpriced' that the public may think we are.

So i am calling on the wiseness of the forum about infromation on setting up a business, government grants or how to possibly achieve funding or bank loans to start my legacy.

Does anybody know anything about starting a business? i know i need to research a lot of things but are there special companies or charities or government funding which allow young people (28) to take initiative and create their own businesses?

    Any information would be great

    Thanks

    Hi Leigh...

any business management course will def be beneficial in helping you run a company, there are many facets to consider...Freds offer of books could be a good start or if you want to speed things up a course is exell... once you have the basic knowledge under your belt you need to sit down and make a business plan...a business plan covers the market, the technology, key personnel and financial projections. You will need a business plan if you intend to raise money from outside investors incl banks.

Im happy to sit down with you at some stage if you need any assistance putting it all together? I could offer you advice from my own personal experience, although our businesses are very different, the same principles apply.

  • Or...Option B.
You could blag your way through things ...make bad decisions...get into huge debt which spirals so far out of control that you have threats of legal action against you and you have to start selling your bikes...ruin your mental and physical health due to stress to the point where you can't even make yourself work despite knowing that it's the only way to sort things...then alienate the very people who care for you and try and help you when things are going wrong.

But personally, i don't recommend that one...it's not much fun.

    Good luck Leigh!

  • Scott . . . you are sitting on a goldmine of business! It's a crime that you don't sort it out properly and make it a viable business, a real tradegy!

  • And Leigh, Bella is VERY good with business. She would be very good to talk to about what need's to be done.

Scott, you should have taken her advice when it was offered.

    Good luck mate.

  • I'm ready to...i'm sick of being broke.
Just a bit too far in debt at the moment and really struggling to get out of it.
I know i need to work harder than ever right now, but i just can't get my head into it...can't concentrate.
So yeah Leigh...don't follow my example!

  • I know the whereabouts of a vacant shop to let with planning permission for conversion to a dental surgery but it's in the Bexley area.

  • Scott, people WORLDWIDE are requesting your bags, that alone should be enough insentive to get cracking. I know it's hard to start. Maybe some outside investment is needed to get up and running. Again, Bella is the person to talk to about it, I'm no expert, far from it as she'll tell you herself.

Sorry Leigh, back to the pearly whites.

  • thanks for the info epithania, I think I would relish your know how, I'm gonna think about this all very much and maybe have a chat a little more about it!!!

Scott dude, very sorry about your situation but we are all human and you sound like an ntelligent person who will ride this storm into the clear blue , good luck man :)

  • Teeth. Fixed.

i have a hammer, some bungy cord and a peice of two by four, that should do the trick!! maybe we can sort this out over a litre of scrumpy and a pipe up at north drinks on tuesday lol

  • :)

  • leigh, if I pour miracle gro on my gums, will it make my wisdom teeth come through faster?

  • you'll need to employ some dude called darth something or rather
usually the best way to start up the empire i have found !!
a certain mr lucas can confirm this to be the case

no but if you buy some bonjella or a topical anaethesia and rub in when sore, you'll feel a bit less pain, unless they are 'impacted' which means your teeth are stopped by bone at the back of your mouth then see your local dentist and whip them out!!!
