Extending threads on forks...

Posted on
  • Has anyone had the thread on their threaded forks extended?

I have a super short headtube and can't find any 650c forks with the correct steerer height/thread length ratio.

SO my choice is extend the thread and cut the steerer (will anyone do this? Surely the tap and die must exist) or chop an inch out of my current 700c forks and get them welded up as i lack the skills and welding equipment.

Any help would be much appreciated :-D

    Oli.

  • I had the steerer on my 1" forks extended 10mm by the guy at Mercian as part of some work that I was having done, so he chucked it in for free.
Fuck knows how he did it, but he did, and the threads matched up perfectly.
