Fucking hell, on Putney Bridge? I didn't think it'd be that bad, I hope they did managed to resuscitate the person in time.
-
• #7
Fuck, hope they were ok - its a nasty bridge to cycle over.

shit man
i am sure we have all been in many a situation where we nip through a gap and have had the "what if..." thought.
i hope there is positive news to follow.
riding through london, i think you do get a bit imune to the real danger out there and find yourself taking risks and nipping through little gaps without thinking that it could quite easily end in tears
i am not saying that is the case with this unfortunate rider necessarily. just made me think...

fuck. not good news. Putney bridge got a lot more dangerous since HGV's were banned from hammersmith bridge, but because of the lights at both ends, a lot of drivers use it as a chance to speed, having sat in traffic at the approach from either end.
hope this one turns out ok.

dark days fingers crossed..ride safe peeps.

here's hoping for good news.

Like all the bridges, it's a shocker how aggressive drivers are.
-
• #15
I hope the rider is going to be ok! What is it with bridges man? Everyone seems to think they're suddenly on a motorway for 400 yards. Are they exempt from speed restrictions or something? Most dangerous part of my ride every day.

Clear bridge with no building/object around (much), ripe for overtaking vehicle you don't like/in order to shave 20 second off your commute time as well as gunning it over the bridge before slowing down at the end.

fuck me I live up the road from the bridge an cycle there loads. As it so happens I don't believe a heli could land on the bridge, unless it was a sea kin or a chinook, which would be too heavy anyways.
Dammit
Careful out there...

Yeah and the buses that are doing 60 but haven't quite overtaken you but pull in to the bus stop anyway.
-
• #19
which lane, the northbound or southbound lane? the southbound can be a squeeze. but speed isnt a problem on either lane as it is always banked up on the south end
hope the person's alright

I hope the rider is ok.

^?
but the more I think of this the more shocking it is.
I've passed that junction numerous times and it seems so harmless. The only hope i have is that the rider is ok, and best wishes to them and their family.
Very upsetting indeed. -

Fingers crossed...
BUT I was a carenger(picking the father in law up from Heathrow) and came back via A4, Fulham Palace Rd to Putney Bridge...traffic was backed up all the way to Hammersmith, they'd closed Putney Bridge....finally got there about 8ish and they'd just re-opened it but there was a tow truck carrying off a VW Golf, whole front end smashed to fuck(right off), OB all over the place....didn't look good.

I was one of the last few pedestrians allowed to cross the bridge at around 6pm. The accident happened on the south side of the bridge just after the lights. Not sure if the VW Golf was involved as it was pointing south and about 30 metres from the accident (maybe it ran into a car as everyone hit the brakes).
What I saw was an X5 had gone up the back of a small white van. Next to the van (which was obstructing my view - not that I really wanted to see what was happening) the ambulance guys were given some serious CPR to the injured person. Did not look good. A female was leaning against the X5 breaking down in tears (possibly a driver of one of the cars).
I ride to work 2 days a week and find the merge heading south and turning right is very dangerous.
The crazy thing is that as cars were trying to perform a u-turn to get out of the built up traffic a cyclist comes flying down from the bridge at 40+ km/h weaving in and out of traffic and almost runs straight into a turning car. The cyclist shouts abuse and punches the car.
I would have thought that having just ridden past a fallen fellow cyclist would have made this guy think about how he rides in traffic. Some people never learn.
Finers crossed, but it really did not look very good at all
A rider got squashed between 2 cars earlier - probably about an hour ago or so - on the south side of the bridge by the traffic lights
Didn't see it happen but someone I spoke to said they tried to resuscitate the person but he didn't think it was successful
They've taped off the area which is usually a bad sign :-(
Some talk of a helicopter getting involved - possibly trying to land on the bridge to rush the victim off to hospital - but in the end they took them off in an ambulance
