Go to Jackson's Cone 24h-Warehouse on Commercial Road. Open 24 hours for all your cone needs.
-
• #4
Wait for some road works to start and nick those cones. Get drunk and put on head. Instant jollification.
-
• #5
In fact, I went to Jackson's last night and I have two cones going spare. Pickup from E3.

Do they have a website that will ship overseas, I live in Swindon.
I can't believe you people keep making me say that. I know it's not London and I am duly shamed of it.

Whaaat? You don't even have a 24h Cone Warehouse in Swindon? How provincial.
-

talking of bearings and cones, how do i know what size bearings i need for my headset, dont have any calipers, and i suspect helding them up against a ruler would be rather ineffective.

Mitchell Cycles in Shrivenham Road is still there and is a great shop. Swindon Cycle Superstore on Ferndale Road is also still there but not as good. As mentioned upthread, getting to the shops is difficult due to working hours.

Take one of them out and take with you to the shop or borrow my vernier.

Sorry complete misread fail. (I know that's a double negative, but that just adds to the fail.)
I bet SJS will sell them.

Genius, why didn't I think of that before. Which ones are NJS?
-
• #15
The Japanese ones.
-
• #16
the NJS ones often come up quite small though...

• #17
That's a left one, I think I need a right cone.

tee hee.

• #19
what hubs are they for?
-

For a Specialised Tricross, their website says
Specialized forged alloy, 32 hole, double sealed bearings, bolt-on -

I tried to get new cones for a DA track hub and ended up having to buy a whole new rear axle as Shimano don't stock the cones on their own any more even in Japan though they are listed with a part number in the spares catalogue.
I found some discussions about compatability of different Shimano cones with hubs but there are so many variations even with one brand.
If you check the Wheels Manufacturing (USA) website they sell loads of cones for retrofitting hubs but I couldn't find one that matched the DA ones.

Surely if the bearings are double sealed you just need some more sealed bearings?
Not sure quite what double sealed means in this instance, but when taking apart the hub last night it was just the usual arrangement of fitted rubber seal, locknut, compression washer and cone direct onto bearings in an open fronted ball race.

You live in Swindon? Fuck me! You ever go to Brunel Rooms? I used to go there 15/17yrs ago

ok sorry...
Working on my bike last night I discovered that the cones now bears a resemblance to the surface of the moon. Other than the LBS, which is difficult to get to due to working hours, where can I go to get new cones and bearings?
