  • BRAKELESS AND FLAT PEDALS ON A FUCKING UNIPACK SERIOUSLY ......

(parked up at the uni next to the union, if I had a pen and paper on me I would have left you a note informing you of how much of a penis you actually are)

  • And the likelyhood of him being on here with a Unipack is???

    lol, props for trying though!

  • You gave me an idea of creating the Smithfield Unipack Nocturne, like those Brompton one, you must dress like a hipster, quickly buy their unipack from the Brick Lane Market, point awarded for not buying a stolen unipack and hagging the price for at least £200 or less, then quickly set off in a Le Man style start, do a couple laps and a require pit stop at BLB to buy an expensive track chain to replace the one that has been snapped (and of course as much pit stop as you want to keep your bike running).

the winner is the one who came first with a unipack that survived the race.

  • Tool.........although would quite like to know who it is......

  • There seems to be a fair few of these brakeless unipacks about, Ive seen at least three in the past month or so. oh well, theres just no telling some people, Darwin in practice innit.

  • Are you lot the bike police?

Do you get annoyed when you see bmx riders with no brakes?

  • I swapped out my mate's chain on his Unipack yesterday to preempt any in-transit accidents. They really are horrible bikes. eg the cabling to the rear brake is attached to the top tube by plastic ties :(

  • I love the unipack. It's the perfect enterprising scheme that succeeds by drawing the very basis of the fad for bicycles as fashion accessories, cynically reducing it to the base form and making it accessible to the burgeoning mass of willing ignorami.

Of course, on the downside, it floods the market with poor quality bicycles, which many users unwittingly (because of the little information they have gleaned by the fashion aspect) render dangerous. On the upside it infuriates those who thought the same look was only possible with great expense and knowledge.

  • Are you lot the bike police?

at least u know that when a bmx rider has no brakes he has some way of stopping ie foot on rear/back wheel

but the unipack riders with no brakes often only do it to look "kool" and really have no idea how stop

  • ^RPM: haha! yes, that seems about it really. though one needs a fair bit of knowledge to keep'em rolling savely after puchase. i bent both brakes, they're worthless soft shit so i understand everyone riding without 'em and relies on alternative stopping techniques.

  • Do you get annoyed when you see bmx riders with no brakes?

not calling you out personally on this, but I've seen this argument before.

who here has ridden both brakeless BMX and a brakeless 700c road bike ?

very, very different in terms of maximum speeds and ease of control, it's not a very good analogy.

Flatland BMX'ers riding brakeless can control their bikes and bail in an emergency, I doubt many hipsters on their fixiefixiefixies can even control their bladders, let alone bikes.

  • why buy a imported used ex-race frame from japan and stick white rims on it and NJS nosewipe and cup holder when you can buy a charge mug with white wheels for less?
why buy a charge mug when you can get a unikac with white rims n stuff for £29.99?

i'm sure some street urchin has enquiringly asked "hey mister is that a unipak? it's wikkid im gona tieve me one bruv" only to be told "actually it's a full NJS nakasawa"
the price to pay for hipster nirvana.

  • I was parked up next to one at Spitalfields yesterday - first time I'd got to have a close look at one. I like the way they've incorporated lightening holes in the welds.

  • Also, the brake pads were about half a mile away from the rims, the back brake's quick release didn't work, nobody had seen fit to grease the inside of the seat tube and it is supplied with flat pedals and no straps. On the upside, they had supplied 16t cogs on both sides of the hub so flipping it was easy, even for me.

  • The brakes on Unipack's don't work anyway. Might as well go brakeless. Probably safer because you're not expecting them to stop the bike.

I'm from Portsmouth and I went back there with my bike earlier in the year. It was good, I went around some of my old skater haunts. I didn't see any fixed gear anything though and I was a bit disappointed. I reckon it's a city that lends itself to a scene. What a shame it's got off to such a bad start.

  • definatly a city for fixed gear, no hills, flat roads and loads of banked stuff to ride.

    Very Wise and spot on!!

Where the fuck did that come from?

  • the burgeoning mass of willing ignorami

+1 RPM! If Dickens was around and documenting the fixed-lookalike cult I'm sure he'd have come up with something like that.

  • Well he is from Portsmouth...Dickens that is.

  • @matt_r_p: flip the rear wheel NAAAH! the chainline is off when u try it with the fixed side by min. 5 mil

  • Slightly off topic, I bought one of these about 5 months ago.. rode it for about a month, 4 mile commute each way.. was freewheel. Changed it fairly quickly for my current bike which is light years ahead, but for 140 (bought it new NOT stolen), it was quite a good deal.. without it I wouldn't have got into cycling in the city.

How many of them have really had breaks/fails that are dangerous? This one was ragged around in snow, rain, kept outside etc, and it's still going (gave it to a mate).. are they really that bad?

On having a brakeless one, that IS retarded, I wouldn't have a brakeless anything though!

  • There is quite a good evolving scene in Portsmouth, check out Southsea Fixed Gear Fight Club and Strong Island. Two excellent sites.

100% flat coastal city, riding here is a pleasure i find and there are very little haters.........

  • Play up Pompey

  • The only team in the south!
