Campag tools and a little help needed

Posted on
  • I'm going to take my new frame to get powdercoated but don't have the correct tools to remove the Campagnolo 'outy' BB and headset. Done it plenty of times on my old Raleigh with plumbers wrenches, but want to do this one properly. Shouldn't take too long to do.

Once it comes back from the powdercoaters, I'd like a little help and use of tools again to do the reverse. The BB is currently as smooth as butter and I'd like to put it back in so it's just as smooth.

If anybody has the tools and know how, I'd appreciate your time one weekend/evening in the near future.

Getting rid of loads of my stuff before I leave for Oz, so you are welcome to a TV or something in return!

  • I have Campag BB tools you can borrow.

  • Hey fresh, got all the gear here in sunny SE1 if you wanna pop round? cheers, H

  • @ dmc - Cool. Could I borrow them next Sunday at the track day maybe please? Then return them after the powdercoating is done? Hopefully the weekend after.

I'd also need to borrow a decent crank extractor. Mine is a cheap piece of rubbish.

@ retro - that sounds like a plan for the replacement of the parts. Thanks for the offer.

only use a campagnolo one on a campagnolo chainset

  • why!?

  • why!?

because a shop ruined something of mine with cheap tools. and i always understood that campagnolo threadings were particular. is it a myth then? if it is clarify for me what i thought i had heard. cheers.

    sorry if i missed something

When's it go for the powdercoat?

    It's a 48 hour turn around.

Got a Campag extractor for you as well.

  • I haven't booked it. They say you can just walk in. So when just depends on the when I can arrange to borrow tools and assistance really.

I just said weekend to weekend, but it could be less of course.

By the sounds of it I could borrow your tools and for the parting stage and pop round to retro's for the second stage.

  • You're more than welcome to them.

If you've decided on a colour you should get the Guerciotti to Armourtex as soon as you can.

I think Retro di Corsa is closer to you and he has a comprehensive toolset.

But I'll bring mine if there's been no movement before the weekend.

  • I think you're right.

@ retro - maybe I could borrow your tools for the removal, and then bring them back for the reconstructing? Armourtex is near me in Hackney. My depot is near you in Waterloo, so I could pick them up on my way home from work one afternoon maybe?

I'll order the decals tonight (the ones from Australia).

  • @ coppiThat - fair point, but you hit the nail on the head with the word 'quality', there's no mystery regarding Campy threads but like all cranks they can be fncked up all to easily by bad tools and/or bad hands. I have a Park one, never had any issues with (many) Campy cranks.

@ fresh - sorry mate but I don't lend tools out - or to be more specific can't because I use most of them regularly and can't risk being without them. Quick job if you want to come here tho'?

  • @ retro - That's fair enough. just pm'ed you but now read your post. I could bring the frame along on Saturday and then again the weekend after if that's OK?

  • cool, Saturday should be fine, I'll get in touch on Friday to arrange a time. I can do some evenings if you're in a hurry. Cheers, H
