There is a thread called let's offroad, or if you search by tag use the keyword flapjacks :)
There are a couple about mountain mayhem.
User small furry has a few threads about mtb builds as does tilover
And of course List man granville has a list of ss mtb frames. You should find a bunch of pics interspersed there.
Surely one trait/benefit or something of an ss mtb is that it can be built/converted from any mtb. If you are going for a flashy fresh build then I guess you want either a horizontal drop of eccentric BB frame for a nice clean look.
I ride a on-one inbred, probably the lest individual ss mtb in the uk :)
The singulars look loverly, and dialed love hate has a great rep but are hard to come by aparently.Oh and proper forum response to this type of question, use the fucking search.
Enjoy. -

I have to agree with that. I've had a DMR trailstar for 11 years and it couldn't have served me better if it tried.Amazing frames.

This comment makes me think of these guys.

But there are loads out there.
If its 26" hoops your after then Dialled do a nice frame with a EBB, the Love/Hate.
http://www.dialledbikes.com/products/mtb/lovehate.html
the ever popular (cheap) inbred with slotted drop-outs.
http://www.on-one-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Slot_Dropout_Inbred_27.html
the voodoo wanga with sliding drop outs
http://www.voodoocycles.co.uk/frame.php?id=3For 29" hoops I'd at least consider:
Niner S.I.R 9;
http://www.stif.co.uk/gear/select_options.asp?productid=7062
Vassago Jabbawocky

Voodoo cycles Dambala
http://www.voodoocycles.net/dambala.htmPersonally I'm tring to save my pennys for some titanium niceness.

Surley make great frames:The Crosscheck is an out-and-out cycloX frame with braze-ons for mudguards and a rear rack. It has horizontal drop-outs for SS ability. (Came close to buying one myself a week ago but went with an alu frame only for £84, as I already had a carbon cycloX fork)

Easily sorted by a framebuilder if you're really bothered. Or use an excentrizer or whatever those german things are called

Singular Peregrine is a bloody lovely ride, especially off road. I have one. You won't find one cheap as Sam is selling them as fast as he can order them.
Surly Cross Checks are ace too, I had one before I got the Peregrine. They ride really nicely and if you can find a 2nd hand one cheaply I'd say go for it.
If you wanted a 26" wheeled MTB, then a Dialled Love/Hate takes a lot of beating. I have one and love it to bits. Mike wasn't going to build them again, but latest rumour is there will be another production run.
On One frames still take a lot of beating for the money and fit your inexpensive price bracket.
Unless you can go 2nd hand I think you'll struggle to find a cheap single speedable cyclocross-ish frame as there aren't that many around to begin with. The Karate Monkey that someone was selling on here would be a good choice for a 29er rather than cyclocross oriented build. If I didn't have too many MTBs as it is, I'd have considered buying it myself.

i just contacted mike about an hour ago they are retailing at £325 and will be here next month :D might go for it (well il have to wait until next year to get sufficient funds) or wait for a peregrine! its such a beautiful frame, and i wanted to put drops on it and its designed for them! win! i think il get round building the fixed up first and then start planning the next build :D

If you want drops, don't get a Love/Hate, it won't work.
Bear in mind that a Peregrine will cost a lot more to build than a Cross Check (or anything else that uses rim brakes) as Avid cable discs aren't that cheap and the range of cheaper 700c disc ready wheels is still not very good.
Hey guys,
Ok so my next project after my Fixed gear is going to be a SS MTB just wondering what frame type i should be using looking for something steel and not fat tubes, nice smooth lines, i would be grateful if anyone could point me to some builds which people have done before for inspiriation
Thanks,
Will
