• Watch out! Just had words with a mbike who nearly killed me approaching wandsworth rndabt, told him he was a dick, he then turned off... Next thing i know as i was turning off later on massive smack on the back of my head as he turned round and came up behind me...
What a cunt! Rant over

• happened to me on clerkenwell road and grays inn road today. a f*cker jumped a red light and almost sends me to the other world

• Some prick in a van thinks he is a bus when he is in traffic and decides to almost end my life, i hope my palmprint stays on his window a long while....

• sends me to the other world

i watched that film Jumper today. what a pile of crap.

oh. motorbikes are human missiles. stay away.
sux that they can use the bus lane now. :(

• motorbike cops are the bad too, the worst type of cop here in manchester.

• sux that they can use the bus lane now. :(

indeed, don't know how many times i've been close to collide with a motorbike since they got allowed in the bus lane, fucking scary they are

Your only chance.

• Never had a problem with cabs?
or buses?

Or your observation and positioning skills?

I have never had any close calls with motorcycles in bus lanes.
Perhaps I should report that and skew the results of the consultation back a bit the other way.

• Of course I have, but the addition of motorbikes in the bus lane makes them a lot busier. Before I usually found myself having a coupla meters to closest vehicle (part from other bikes) in the bus lane, at least to the sides, now there tends to be motorbikes zipping past left right center.

Getting away from red lights, when there's a lot of traffic, now is juggling your position with a few cyclists + a few motorbikes, add a sports bike coming from behind trying to squeeze pass fast as fuck, and it gets quite busy.

• The main difference that I have noticed on my commute is that previously motorbikes ran down the white line on the edge of the bus lane, straying over it upon occaision/blasting down it when there were no cameras.

With them using the right hand side of the bus lane, which is what they were effectivly doing everything was fine and dandy.

Now they have the full width of the lane to play with- and being passed on the left by a motorbike doing 30+ which you are not expecting is a little hard to deal with, as the chap on the kona in front of me the other day discovered. He was very lucky to have not been taken straight off.

HAHAAHAHAHA
the first question :
In the last 12 months, how often have you done the following?
iv. Walked for more than five minutes

WTF?!?!?!

• might try walking at intervals of 5mins. wherever i am, i'll just sit down have a kitkat when times up.

• being passed on the left by a motorbike doing 30+ which you are not expecting is a little hard to deal with, as the chap on the kona in front of me the other day discovered. He was very lucky to have not been taken straight off.

He looked at me funny. I couldn't just leave it.

• Riding down Hollowway Road this morning I was followed by a superbike for about 5min. He sat back at a safe distance and waved a thanks when I could pull over a bit to let him past, I waved back to say thankyou for not riding like a dick. I was very refreshing to encounter a such a conciderate motorbike rider on the Holloway Road. It is useualy a nightmare.

• I think it's like all the traffic. 3/4 or more is considerate. But you only notice the 1/4 of people who make mistakes, drive/ride like dicks, or just have no clue.

I have been regularly surprised by how many motorbikes will not go into the ASL if I am in a position to set the example (i.e. at the front with no cars, so I can be easily seen to have stopped before it). Course you always get some - usually scooters and couriers.

Again, please let TfL have your comments.

You'd be surprised at some people's travel patterns.

• Indeed I have someone collect me at the lifts and push me in my office chair to the keyboard.

• He looked at me funny. I couldn't just leave it.

It was a shaft drive BMW- ergo not you.

• Survey done.

• It was a shaft drive BMW- ergo not you.

busted!
and I was planning to follow it up with accusing him of spilling my pint too!

BMWs always seem to be ridden by arseholes. Usually with white helmets and high vis jackets with something witty, like "POLICE" written on the back.

• It was a shaft drive BMW- ergo not you.

Been > 10 years since I rode motorbikes, but I see BMW riders are still tossers.

Excellent suggestion. Done.

• This chap seemed to have been informed that his life would end if he did not make it to work in the next 20 seconds, hence no one was allowed to get in his way.

I always find it odd- the percieved hierarchy of the road thing.

If I'd bullied him in my large Volvo as he was doing to the other cyclists he would have gone nuts...

Thanks for that Oliver. You can always be relied upon to provide us with the easy way - to motivate us a little in positive directions. Bless you!

Are you sure? You mention in a later post that ASLs are often invaded 'mostly by mopeds and couriers'... have you noticed any worsening of this habit? I definitely have. I think that its more tempting or 'necessary' for them to use the ASL, particularly if they have been filtering down a bus lane past backed up four-wheelers, to then require a right turn, they will make an obvious choice to use the ASL diagonally to get a good position for the green light.

I use ASLs on the left only, mostly, as Mbikes have always used them on the right from central filtering. I think they are now using all of the ASL a lot more due to the positions that Bus Lane use is putting them in.

I'd like to see some policing of ASLs, I really would. If you consider all the hue and cry about RLJ that has been going on, and police effort to be seen to be doing something, its remarkable how little has been done to consider some of the possible causes for cyclist RLJing... such as ASL encroachment.
