Locked groove dub plate in london

  • any one know where i can get a locked groove dub plate cut in london

vinyl cutters dont seem to do it any more

  • national sound in detroit can do them on vinyl

am struggling to think of any British pressing plants that do them

a lock groove on a dubplate would wear out really quickly - dubplates wear down pretty fast i think they can be played 50 or so times. imagine one 4 beat loop playing 33 times a minute - play it for 2 minutes and its pretty much dead

I would suggest just play the loop and record to CD and use a CDJ - can either play it as a loop or just record it playing for a few minutes and use that

  • Lock groove hey, what for?

  • probably like the UR battle weapons, Mills, Hawtin etc

so few people can use them effectively

  • I always used to use a Tom Middleton/Cosmos lock groove thing on 'Summer In Space', sounded ace, kind of like the groove on 'I Feel Love', great for whacking an acapella or beat over the top

  • .....the bit at the start, check it:

  • im not a dj its just for a sound art thing about how drawing and sound are kind of related

still no one has a dj or studio tech friend they can ask?

  • Ask 'paul74' on here, he may be able to help....?

  • thanks braux! will do

  • you can make a standard vinyl into a lock groove if you don't value it by bending grooves with a scalpel

  • yeah but want a single continuous loop cut in the surface of a disk with sound in it
