What bike to choose

  • Hi everyone help is needed. im looking to get my first racing bike and just wondering what to get. I would like to know what would be an ideal bike etc. I haven't got much money and understand that picking up a second hand bike is probably my only option. ive probabley got about £400 and jus wanna know if i have a chance of getting a decent bike. lol

    any help would be great thanks.

  • what sort of "racing" do you want to do? road, track, time trials?

  • Thats a very good piont. i want road bike. more to get fit and enter a phew rides . ie london to brighton next year.

  • fixed or geared? I may have completely misunderstood the OP but asking about road bikes on a fixed gear/single speed forum might not get you the range of answers you're looking for, despite the amount of roadies on here ;-)

  • If you happen to be about 5'9 tall or thereabouts I'm planning on selling one of these, size medium and only 9 months old. It's one of the bikes that bikeradar will recommend as a starter geared bike.
    I'll be looking for circa £250

    Michelin Pro 2 red tires (50 miles)
    Dura Ace cranks and chain rings
    Look Keo pedals
    ultegra flight deck shifters (2008)
    Dura Ace Chain
    Selle Italian Saddle
    Red Bontrager bottle cage

    Condition: Overall good, it has some scratches and pings in the paint job. No dents.

    Looking for £400.
