What type taper is the BB? ISO or JIS?
-
• #3
It's a Shimano UN54 for a 68mm BB.

Is there any difference between the Stronglight Impact cranks that Hubjub used to sell, and me buying Impact Road or Impact Compact and just removing the extra chain rings?
-
• #10
most likely the same thing, you will need shorter bolts thats all

£40 FSA chainsets:
http://www.kiwicycles.com/partsce.htmRe: Stronglight - Yeah the ones HubJub sold were most likely road cranks with a 1/8" chainring and shorter bolts. If this is the case, why not buy a nicer set of road cranks and buy a 1/8" chainring for £20-25. You could buy a nice looking Campag or Shimano set. Someone was selling some lovely DA cranks on here - http://www.londonfgss.com/thread21603.html

£40 FSA chainsets:
http://www.kiwicycles.com/partsce.htmI have considered those as they are good value but wouldn't that require a 110mm BB whilst the Impact uses 107mm which I currently have?

I dunno really, might be best to check the Transmission Database - I know someone who uses a 107mm JIS BB with that chainset...

Stronglight seems the better bet as given that I have a UN54 and a System EX hub:-
Stronglight + UN53/107mm + Sys-X + Formula= MA3K
Compared to:-
FSA Vero + Shimano UN54 110mm + System EX + On-One = Buddha Fingaz

Thanks for the tip Pifko. I ended up grabbing that Dura Ace crank.

Cool, Not sure what BB you'd need with those. If you want to mount the chainring on the outside of the spider, you'd need a fairly short BB axle. There are 103mm JIS BB's available.

If the transmission database is any guide I should be able to use my 107mm. I am going to have a nice setup with this crank and the new EAI sprocket I plan to order.

Pifko do you have any recommendations for chain rings within that price range? I had a look at Hubjub but they charge £44 quid or so for a 48T Surly ring.
Before I try buying stuff of Ebay was wondering if anyone had a silver or black crank set with a 48 teeth chain ring that they wanted to sell.
Ideally it would suit a 107mm square tapered BB so I don't have to buy a new one.
